"Haider attacks Sharon and Chirac and comes out for a new European Party
In an interview with an Austrian weekly, Carinthian governor, Jörg Haider, launched a sharp attack on Ariel Sharon, the Israeli prime minister. Haider considers that Sharon should go before the War Crimes Tribunal in the Hague because of the acts carried out by the Israeli army.
Haider also criticised both French presidential candidates for the run-off election: "I am glad I dont have to make a choice", he said. Chirac unfortunately looks like being elected with the help of the Left although he really doesnt fit the Elysée Palace. Le Pens programme was also rejected by Haider. FPÖ politicians have pointed out this week that unlike Le Pen, the FPÖ does not support the death penalty, is not anti-Arab nor anti-Semitic and does not want to pull out of the EU.
Nevertheless Haider is thinking of building up a right European party to stand in the EU elections in 2004. Such a stance is necessary, he said, to fight the bureaucratic idiocy in Brussels. He believes there is enough support across the continent for a successful New Europe Party. "
