Sembra incredibile, ma in meno di 24 ore abbiamo già un reo confesso per l'attentato di Bali che ha raso al suolo un night club. Il quale si sarebbe pure rammaricato per morti e feriti, mentre si dimenticava opportunamente di rivelare chi gli avesse commissionato la costruzione dell'ordigno.

Ex Uomo dell'areonautica "autore della Bomba a Bali"

L'uomo, un ex militare dell'areonautica indonesiana, ora in custodia delle autorità indonesiane, ha detto di avere imparato a costruire le bombe mentre prestava servizio nell'areonautica, come riporta l'International Herald Tribune. Sempre secondo le sue dichiarazioni sarebbe stato cacciato dall'arma a causa della sua cattiva condotta.


L'ambasciatore statunitense Ralph Boyce ha dichiarato di non poter confermare quelle dichiarazioni.


Il capo della Polizia Nazionale Da'i Bachtiar ha affermato che le tracce ritrovate nel luogo sono riconducibili all'esplosivo militare C-4, un esplosivo al plastico usato anche due anni fa nell'attacco all'USS Cole nello Yemen.


Nel mese di agosto del 2000, la sede dell'ambasciatore filippino a Jakarta è stata bombardata usando lo stesso tipo di esplosivo. I servizi segreti filippini incolparono di quell'attacco la Jemmah Islamiyah.


In passato, ogni volta che un attentato veniva eseguito con l'esplosivo C-4, le autorità seguivano una pista militare deviata, sicure che l'esplosivo fosse stato comprato o rubato dai rifornimenti militari.


Fonti indonesiane affermano che una settimana prima dell'attacco erano state allertate e seguivano la pista di matrice islamica. Le principali posizioni intorno al Paese erano state fortificate: Bali fu invece deliberatamente lasciata scoperta, perché non si immaginava che "i militanti abrebbero colpito l'isola tropicale".

Former Air Force man 'made Bali bomb' - report


A former member of the Indonesian Air Force has admitted building the bomb that levelled a Bali nightclub, it was reported today.


The man said he regretted the loss of life, but has reportedly not told investigators who commissioned him to build the device.


The suspect, who is being held by Indonesian authorities, learned to make explosives while serving in the air force, the International Herald Tribune said on its Website.


It said he was later kicked off the force for misconduct.


US Ambassador Ralph Boyce said he had read about the reported confession but could not confirm it.


National Police Chief Da'i Bachtiar said traces of the military explosive C-4 - a puttylike plastic explosive used in the attack two years ago on the USS Cole in Yemen - were found at the scene.


In August 2000, the home of the Philippine ambassador in Jakarta was bombed using similar materials. Philippine intelligence officials blamed that attack on Jemmah Islamiyah.


In past cases in Indonesia, whenever C-4 has been found in any bombing it has been traced to the military, raising speculation that the explosive was bought or stolen from military stocks.


An Indonesian security source told the newspaper that his government learned a week before the bombing that Muslim extremists were planning to carry out an attack.


Security was heightened at 60 locations around the country but not in Bali, because authorities did not suspect that militants would strike the tropical resort island, the official said.
