In pratica si informa che l’FBI ha aperto una indagine preliminare sul tuo computer identificandoti attraverso l’IP Number (inventato), che ha sequestrato l’elenco dei files presenti nel computer come prova e che nei prossimi giorni l’utente riceverà l’accusa formale per posta.
Inoltre si fornisce l’indirizzo di un fantomatico Uffico FBI “Download illegali da Internet”
La mail ha gettato nel terrore centinaia di studenti specialmente tra i meno esperti di internet o minorenni.
Il testo è ben congegnato e induce ad aprire il file allegato, travestito da innocuo “elenco dei file scaricati illegalmente” a questo punto il danno è fatto il virus presente nell’allegato ( identificato come appartenente alla famiglia SOBER.C) infetta i sistemi windows 95 e 98 e si spedisce agli indirizzi presenti nella rubrica continuando la catena.
