ho visto un quadro alla queen elizabeth II gallery a Londra di un tale frith last at the seaside che penso si traduca gli ultimi sul bagnasciuga o sulla spiaggia.

sulla spiegazione sotto il quadro c'era solo scritto che è un interpretazione del pittore di un noto romanzo di dickens.

per caso non era "Life at the Seaside"?

William Powell Frith era un amico di Charles Dickens e piaceva molto alla Regina Vittoria.
Faceva le vacanze a Ramsgate nel 1853 e dipinse la vita di spiaggia in questo quadro che fu venduto per 1.000 ghinee alla Regina Vittoria.

"Frith was a painter of historical genre and scenes of Victorian life. He was born near Ripon, Yorkshire, and forced by his ambitious parents to take up painting. He studied at Sass’s Academy and the Royal Academy Schools. Frith was elected Associate member of the Royal Academy in 1845 and a full member in 1852. All of his early subjects were of historical and literary scenes. The images were taken from such sources as Shakespeare, Moliere, Scott and Dickens. In his autobiography, Frith claims that he was always “strongly drawn towards illustration of modern life. It was not, however, until the Pre-Raphaelites had made modern genre acceptable that Frith tried his hand at this type of subject. A visit to Ramsgate in 1851 gave him the idea for his first panorama of Victorian life, 'Ramsgate Sands, Life at the Seaside' which was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1854. The painting was an enormous success and was purchased by Queen Victoria. Encouraged by this, Frith went on to paint a succession of similar panoramas for which he is now best known. These titles include 'Derby Day', 1858, 'The Railway Station', 1862, 'The Salon d’Or', 1871 and 'Private View Day at the Royal Academy', 1883. These paintings proved to be so successful that they were reproduced in hand colored engravings and were therefore available for purchase by many more people other than Queen Victoria. Their large scale and incredible detail has kept their popularity intact for 150 years. "
