A new Irish airline, JetGreen Airways, has suspended its flights and ceased trading.
In a statement this afternoon, the airline has advised passengers booked with them to make alternative arrangements.
JetGreen commenced flights from Dublin to Malaga and Alicante in Spain just last week.
It is the latest start-up airline to be swept aside by the intense competition between carriers in Europe.
Earlier this month an Edinburgh-based airline, Duo, which had planned two routes from Shannon, also went out of business. In February, the Cork-based JetMagic collapsed.
Apart from flights to Alicante and Malaga, JetGreen had planned to open more routes to other destinations in Europe and had been in negotiation with Aer Rianta for more slots at Dublin airport.
It had been offering some seats on its flights for as little as €1.
JetGreen is bonded as a tour operator. The one plane it operated was supplied by a subsidiary of Icelandic Air.
A spokesperson for the Aviation Regulator said this afternoon that all passengers booked to fly with JetGreen were covered for compensation by an industry bond.
But neither the regulator nor the airline could say how passengers may be stranded in Spain."
