JULY 21, 2004 TURKISH NATIONAL CARRIER CHOOSES AIRBUS FOR FLEET INCREASE
Airbus confirms that the Turkish national carrier Turkish Airlines has signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the purchase of 36 Airbus single aisle and wide body aircraft, further strengthening Airbus’ presence in Central Eastern Europe. The purchase agreement is expected to be signed shortly.

This agreement renews the partnership between Turkish Airlines and Airbus that began in 1984, when the A310 became the first Airbus aircraft to be operated by the Istanbul-based airline. Now, 20 years on, following the introduction of the A340-300 in its fleet in 1993, Turkish Airlines has opted to use the modern and efficient Airbus family products, by acquiring 19 A320’s, 12 A321’s and five A330-200’s. The new aircraft will support Turkish Airlines’ aggressive growth strategy.

With deliveries scheduled as from end 2005, the airline, which operates domestic and international flights via Istanbul, plans to use the aircraft on both domestic, medium and long haul routes internationally. Turkish Airlines will select the engines type to equip the different aircraft at a later stage.

On the occasion of this announcement, the Chairman of Turkish Airlines, Dr. Candan Karlitekin said that “having analysed the tender proposals thoroughly, we have come to the conclusion that by acquiring the Airbus aircraft, Turkish Airlines will position itself optimally, both in terms of passenger appeal and cargo potential, but also cost-wise. The economic benefits brought about by the technological level and design features of these aircraft are unique and very compelling indeed.”

“We are delighted to be strengthening our relationship with Turkish Airlines and supporting it in its growth strategy” said Noel Forgeard, Airbus President and Chief Executive Officer. “The advantages of using a mixed Airbus fleet are enormous and we are sure that Turkish Airlines crew and passengers will benefit from these. This agreement confirms the growing popularity of the A320 family in the Central and Eastern European region and the success of the A330-200, which has become the reference for medium-long haul routes and point-to-point destinations for both the traditional carriers and the charter market.

Scherzi a parte mi pare molto un ordine politico: uno per far piacere all' europa ed entrarci l' altro per tenersi buoni gli USA...

UPDATE - Turkish Airlines says to buy Airbus, Boeing planes

ANKARA, July 21 (Reuters) - State-run Turkish Airlines (THY) said on Wednesday it would buy 36 planes from European maker Airbus and 15 from U.S.-based Boeing Co.

"We decided at our executive board meeting on Tuesday to buy five A330/200s, twelve A321/200s and nineteen A320/200 planes from Airbus and fifteen B737/800 jets from Boeing," THY said in a statement faxed to the Istanbul stock exchange.

The purchases are part of the national carrier's plans to expand its fleet, which currently comprises 70 planes, the statement said.

The order includes five large-body, long-distance planes from Airbus and 46 medium-distance planes from both Airbus and Boeing, it said.

The announcement of the decision coincides with a visit to France by Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan, who told reporters on Tuesday evening that talks between Airbus and THY were in "the final stage". He gave no details of the purchases.

The talks with Airbus and Boeing have been going on for months amid a boom in Turkish domestic air travel.

Sicuramente quei 15 738 saranno utilissimi a ridurre i costi di gestione

E poi gli Americani dicono che Airbus va avanti a colpi di sussidi.... Qui è chiaro che l' insensato ordine dei Boeing viene solo dalla necessità di accontentare almeno in parte le pretese USA

A dire il vero sono i 320/321 che sono utilissimi a ridurre i costi di gestione visto che la Turkish ha già in linea 26 737-800...

Nessun senso infatti!
Se hanno già i 737-800 (e anche i 734 che devono appunto rimpiazzare)perchè prendere i 320/321?
Io vedo più l'ordine dei 320/321 un ordine politico e l'ordine dei 738 uno razionale. (Così come ritengo giusto ordinare i 332 visto che hanno già i 343...)
Poi questa è solo la mia opinione, cioè quello che avrei fatto io nei panni di TK.

Ma l' aviazione risente da quando è iniziata delle influenze politiche: EL AL ha tutti boeing. ANA ha ordinato 50 7E7...il 40% dell' aereo è fatto in giappone. La cina dopo che gli fu bombardata l' ambasciata nella guerra nel kossovo ha fatto un maxi ordine per airbus...per non parlare di quello che succede in india dove sono li da 2 anni a dire compro di compro di la...

la risposta è qui, Boeing non consegna prima del 2007, e se ne hai bisogno o prendi A32x o ti attacchi... Airbus vuole aumentare di 1/2 la produzione dei suoi NB e così facendo sicuramente riesce a riempire la produzione lo stesso...

ps e poi avere i lungo raggio Airbus e avere anche i corto raggio fa risparmiare molto sugli equipaggi...
