New developments for Cork Airport and region
-as Aer Lingus announces four new routes from Cork-

Aer Lingus today (August 23rd 2004) announced four new routes from Cork to continental Europe to commence in early Summer 2005. The addition of four new routes brings the total number of Aer Lingus routes from Cork to 11 demonstrating the airline's significant commitment to and confidence in the Cork market.

In addition to existing services to London Heathrow, Amsterdam, Paris, Malaga, Barcelona, Alicante and Milan, Aer Lingus will now offer customers direct flights from Cork to Munich, Rome, Nice and Faro. The addition of these routes will result in a 50% increase in capacity on an annual basis and will deliver an additional 1.25 million seats into and out of Cork. As part of the expansion, Aer Lingus will also be basing three new Airbus 320 aircraft in Cork airport by April 2005 and will be adding an increased schedule on existing services.

The Cork expansion plans were unveiled at an event hosted by Aer Rianta and attended by local industry.

Commenting on the expansion, Seamus Kearney, Chief Operations Officer at Aer Lingus said, "Aer Lingus has announced 32 new routes since November 2001. In addition, we are pleased today to announce this very important and exciting development for the customer base located here and for the Cork region especially in 2005 when Cork is the European Capital of Culture. This announcement forms part of our strategy of expanding our European network and of providing direct, low fares access to popular destinations for our customers. We are committed to delivering on this strategy going forward which realises our vision of being recognised by our customers and the airline industry as one of Europe's leading low fares airlines."

Joe O'Connor, Director of Cork Airport added, "This announcement by Aer Lingus is the most significant of its nature in the last number of years and will have a sizeable impact on passenger numbers flying into and out of Cork. We look forward to the positive impact of increased tourism for the region as a direct result of these new routes. This expansion is equally important for Cork Airport as Southern based customers can benefit from an increased frequency of flights and an increasing number of popular destinations on their own doorstep."

Aer Lingus is by far the largest airline operating out of Cork. In all, Aer Lingus now offers 11 routes from Cork including Barcelona, Alicante and Milan (announced in August 2003) and London Heathrow, Amsterdam, Paris, Malaga, Alicante, Barcelona.
