Esattamente 3 anni fa, il 2 ottobre 2001, l'intera flotta Swissair, rimase bloccata a terra: la liquidità di SR era ormai ridotta all'osso, e i fornitori di carburante decisero di non fare più credito. Per la compagnia di bandiera svizzera fu l'inizio della fine...

Proprio ieri è stato annunciato che nei prossimi mesi verrà girato un film-documentario sul "grounding" di Swissair e il tracollo della compangnia. Il lungometraggio verrà proiettato nei cinema svizzeri nel 2005.

Swiss International Air Lines plans to boost its long-haul fleet in order to grow its network, which has shrunk over the past few months.

According to VP-European Sales and Marketing Rudolf Schuhmacher, the airline is looking to add two more A340-300s, which would bring its fleet of A340s to 11. "We need two more aircraft for our long-haul fleet, primarily to increase frequencies," he explained to ATWOnline. Swiss also operates nine A330-200s on long-haul routes.
In addition, the carrier wants to streamline its fleet of 50- to 100-seat aircraft and plans to bring in the Embraer 170s and 190s it has on order in the very near future. "We still have Avros, Saabs and ERJ-145s. We are now evaluating whether to phase out our 50-seat aircraft in a separate unit. This should happen at the latest in one to two year's time. Maybe we will make the decision earlier," Schuhmacher said

Per quanto tempo gli aerei Swissair rimasero a terra? Qualcuno ricorda bene la storia? Io poco o nulla...so solo che il 1 gennaio 2002 ero in servizio sulla MXP-LAX e li ho visto il primo aereo dipinto Swiss...un bel MD11 parcheggiato accanto al nostro M11 AZ.
