Smoke smell prompts USAir flight to make emergency landing
A US Airways commuter flight was forced to return to Bradley International Airport on Wednesday after the crew smelled smoke in the cockpit, an airline official said.
Flight 3517, which left Bradley at 90 a.m. bound for Pittsburgh, was forced to turn around shortly after takeoff, said John Wallace, a spokesman for the airport. The problem was discovered about 10 minutes into the flight.
It landed safely and none of the 49 passengers and crew members were injured, said David Castelveter, a spokesman for US Airways. The airline put passengers on other flights, and a maintenance crew was sent to Bradley to look at the jet, he said.
The smoke apparently was caused by a leak in the 50-seat Embraer regional jet's air conditioning system, Castelveter said.
"They had a smoke smell in the cockpit and as a precaution they went back," Castelveter said.

Commento personale: Il velivolo in questione dovrebbe essere un ERJ-145 che, per quello che mi risulta, è decollato dall´Aeroporto di Hartford-Springfield.
