Baghdad sniper kills US soldier.
An Iraqi sharpshooter shot and killed a US soldier near the Sukkaniya area in the southern Baghdad suburb of ad-Durah. Witnesses told the Mafkarat al-Islam correspondent that the dead American soldier, who was hit in the temple, was stopped in a long line trying to organize fuel ration distribution for cars. The Resistance sharpshooter was perched on a building opposite the fuel station where the American was shot, witnesses reported.
After the shooting, US troops closed the fuel station and completely surrounded the area. They searched tall buildings in the area and found one empty bullet casing and a piece of paper on which was written, “What has been taken by blood, cannot be regained except by blood. Baghdad sniper.”
An officer in the puppet “oil facilities protection service” in the area of the fuel station confirmed this report, saying that the piece of paper was found but that they were unable to locate the sniper. The officer said that the sniper had shot more than 40 American soldiers over the past three months.
