Inflight breakup of a China Airlines 747-200 on May 25, 2002, with the loss of all 225 persons onboard was "highly likely" the result of "the structural failure in the aft lower lobe section of the fuselage," Taiwan's Aviation Safety Council determined in a report on the accident released Friday. ASC said it found a 15.1-in. fatigue crack in the area, which in turn probably had its origins in an improper repair following a 1980 tail strike incident in Hong Kong. Subsequent maintenance inspections of the aircraft did not detect the ineffective 1980 structural repair and the fatigue cracks that were developing under the repair doubler, ASC said. Flight CI611 crashed in the Taiwan Strait while en route from Taipei to Hong Kong.--PF

E' il secondo incidente di un B747 dovuto ad un "structural failure" causato da una cattiva riparazione nella parte poppiera dell'aereo!

Mi sa' che in Boeing è meglio che cambino quanto prima i carrozzieri! :-)

Curioso il fatto che trattandosi di un Boeing la responsabilità venga imputata solo alla riparazione, mentre se si fosse trattato di un Airbus la colpa sarebbe stata dei tecnici della linea aerea che in 22 anni di ispezioni e manutenzioni non si sono accorti di un veniale errore dei maghi di Tolosa...
