American Eagle Airlines, Dallas, TX - $600,000
January 16-19, 2004 - For allegedly operating an Embraer 135 aircraft on 20 flights when it was not in compliance with federal aviation regulations. The FAA alleged American Eagle failed to perform required maintenance on a faulty rudder system although the carrier allegedly had prior knowledge of aircraft vibration at an airspeed greater than 290 knots. Rather than conduct a thorough examination to determine the source of the vibration, American Eagle performed a visual inspection and imposed an airspeed restriction of 280 knots. American Eagle continued to dispatch and operate the aircraft until it experienced a rudder control rod failure.
