Police investigate copter crash site in Shizuoka

SHIZUOKA — About 100 policemen combed Wednesday through a residential neighborhood in the city of Shizuoka, where a prefectural police helicopter crashed Tuesday after grazing an apartment building, killing all five people onboard. The police retrieved the debris of the helicopter to pinpoint the cause of the crash. The Italian-made Agusta A109 helicopter was monitoring traffic conditions at a nearby highway at the time of the accident. The bodies of four crew members were found in the wreckage and the body of the fifth was found in a nearby river. The police plan to check communication and maintenance records and the wreckage of the helicopter, named the Fuji No. 1, which was not equipped with a voice or flight data recorder. (Kyodo News)
