Die Presse (diepresse.com) 23.12.2005
Bratislava/Vienna – The Vienna Airport has purchased 66 percent of the Bratislava Airport for over 13.9 billion Kronen (370 million euros) and the provincial airport Kosice for 1.28 billion Kronen (34 million euros) as part of the TwoOne consortium, including the Raiffeisen Central Bank and the Slovakian investment company Penta. Six billion Kronen of the offer will go towards purchasing the Bratislava Airport while 7.9 billion Kronen will be invested in modernisation over the next five years. At the announcement on Thursday, Slovakian Transportation Minister Pavol Prokopovic neither confirmed the purchase price nor gave the reason for accepting the Vienna offer. Vienna Airport director Herbert Kaufmann laid out the plans for a joint airport system connected by an extended City Airport Train (CAT). Kaufmann told “Die Presse” on Thursday: “This is a great opportunity for both airports and for the development of the entire region.” The Anti-monopoly Commission expressed concern over Vienna winning the bid and the competing consortium ISAP (with the Cologne-Bonn Airport and the Airport Consulting Vienna) threatened to lodge a complaint with the EU.
