News ReleasesYear-End Operations From London Heathrow Airport
    28 December 2005

Airport authorities at London Heathrow airport have made sufficient fuel available to allow all Singapore Airlines flights from London Heathrow to Singapore to fly non-stop from 28 to 31 December 2005.

However, fuel rationing continues to be enforced at the airport, and on all other days, operations will be as follows:

SQ317 (daily departure at 1100hrs) - this flight will fly non-stop from London Heathrow to Singapore

SQ319 (daily departure at 1815hrs) - this flight will fly non-stop from London Heathrow to Singapore on Fridays ONLY. From Saturday to Thursday, the flight will stopover in Frankfurt for refuelling and consequently, will arrive in Singapore at approximately 1640hrs the following day: a delay of 1 hour and 45 minutes.

SQ321 (daily departure at 2215 hrs) - this flight will fly non-stop from London Heathrow to Singapore

Flights from Singapore to London Heathrow are operating normally.

Singapore Airlines will do all possible to assist customers with connecting flights to make their connections. Customers with very tight connections, or who are in doubt about their connecting flights, should check with their travel agent, or the local Singapore Airlines Reservations Service Centre (in UK, telephone (0870) 6088886 tollfree).

When normal flight operations resume, a notice will be posted on this website for 72 hours, after which time, notices shall be deleted.

South African non è molto contenta del razionamento carburante a LHR.
    Articolo tratto da http://allafrica.com/stories/200512290386.html

SOUTH African Airways (SAA) CEO Khaya Ngqula is due to meet British Airport Authority officials today following concerns that SAA is being unfairly treated in the wake of a fuel crisis at London's Heathrow Airport.

SAA recently had to divert one of its three daily direct flights to London through Milan, Italy, to refuel. This was after the British Airport Authority told airlines this month that their fuel intake before taking off from Heathrow would be reduced 30%.

SAA yesterday came out strongly against what it said was preferential treatment being given to British Airways and Virgin Airlines, which had their fuel intake reduced by only 15%.

SAA acting operations GM Johnny Woods said the airline was not happy with the preferential treatment being given to its competitors.

"BAA said they were treating these airlines differently because if they did not, their flights would be cancelled and the airport would be crowded. We are contesting that because we think it is unfair discrimination."

Woods said Ngqula was scheduled to leave for London last night. While there, he would seek a meeting with the British Airports Authority to discuss the airline's concerns.

"He was going to London anyway but asked to have this meeting scheduled," said Woods.

The fuel shortage at Heathrow -- expected to last between three and 18 months -- follows an explosion and subsequent fire at a fuel depot in London this month.

SAA said it was "tankering" as much extra fuel as it was allowed to on flights departing for London, to be used on return flights.

Woods said the fuel shortage and the subsequent flight diversions had increased SAA's costs but he could not quantify the increase.

"We have not yet worked out the costs -- but they are significant," he said.

"There is also the customer service element. Having to stop for refuelling has caused great inconvenience to our customers, some of whom have missed connecting flights."

Woods said the preferential treatment was giving British Airways and Virgin Airlines a competitive advantage. "Customers will obviously always prefer a direct flight," he said.

SAA said it had set up an internal committee to monitor and evaluate the situation daily so that it could decide on the best routes in order to minimise disruption and inconvenience for customers.

The airline said all its flights to London today would be direct, however flights would be diverted tomorrow.
