British aircraft-engine maker Rolls-Royce PLC said Wednesday that it has struck an $800 million deal with Air China to install its Trent 1000 engines in the 15 new Boeing 787 jets it has ordered.
The deal also includes a long-term maintenance agreement. Deliveries of the twin-engine aircraft are due to begin in June 2008.
The announcement comes as British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met Wednesday to focus on expanding trade between their countries.

Rolls-Royce competes with General Electric Co.'s aviation unit to supply the engines for Boeing Co.'s next-generation plane, tailored to cover more destinations with more frequent, non-stop services.
Airlines that order a 787 can choose the engine supplier based on their own request for bids. Boeing then installs the desired engines before delivery.
"The decision to select the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 was taken after a careful evaluation and successful negotiation," said Air China Chairman Li Jiaxiang. "It meets the operational requirements of our Boeing 787 fleet, and the choice will be beneficial to Air China's development."
Rolls-Royce said there are now 154 firm and option orders for 787 aircraft with the engines.
GE Aviation has 160 firm orders for 787s with GE's GEnx engine, according to spokesman Rick Kennedy.
"We expect both companies are going to win their fair share of 787 contracts," Kennedy said. "GE is very pleased with the market share we have."
In August, GE announced deals to supply engines for nine 787s ordered by Shanghai Airlines and 10 787s ordered by China Southern.
Kennedy said each GE engine lists for between $15 million and $20 million.
United Technologies Corp.'s Pratt & Whitney aviation engine unit, long the market leader in supplying engines for commercial aircraft, was left out of the 787 market when Boeing chose engine suppliers in April 2004.
Boeing has more than 375 firm orders for the 787 family of planes.
The 787 line is still in development and scheduled for a test flight next year.
