Qantas Airways Adds More Non-Stop Flights between San Francisco and Sydney
LOS ANGELES, December 18 /CNW/ - Qantas Airways has announced it will
increase non-stop service between San Francisco and Sydney from three to five
flights per week effective March 26, 2007, in response to the increasing
demand for travel to Australia.
"Our new San Francisco services have quickly established themselves as a
popular option for people traveling between the United States and Australia,
so it makes excellent commercial sense for us to build the route further,"
said Wally R. Mariani, Qantas Airways senior executive vice president, The
Americas and Pacific. "Recognized as a growing American gateway, Qantas is
committed to providing Bay area travelers with more convenience and
flexibility," he added.
Starting in March with the increased service, Qantas will operate five
non-stop flights weekly from San Francisco to Sydney on Monday, Wednesday,
Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Currently, non-stop flights operate on Wednesday,
Friday and Sunday, and provide convenient connections to 50 domestic
Australian cities. Qantas flights to Sydney depart from San Francisco at 11:00
p.m., arriving in Sydney at 65 a.m. plus two. Return flights depart Sydney
at 1:25 p.m. and arrive at 9:45 a.m. the same day.
"Since last March when we re-launched Qantas flights to San Francisco, we
have received a very positive response from business and destination
travelers," said Peter McLaughlin, Qantas Airways vice president, Northern
California. "Services have been carefully timed to accommodate connecting
passengers flying through key hubs such as Seattle, Portland, Vancouver and
Chicago via code share partners American Airlines and Alaska Airlines," he
added.
"Qantas now makes it even more convenient for our customers to travel
between two beautiful sister cities, Sydney and San Francisco," said John
Martin, airport director, San Francisco International Airport. "By increasing
service to five days a week - and thus increasing seats per week by 66 percent
- Qantas provides passengers with greater flexibility when scheduling travel,"
he added.
Utilizing Boeing 747-400 aircraft, all Qantas international flights from
the U.S. feature complimentary bar, menus prepared by world-renowned chef Neil
Perry, entertainment options that include personal seat back video screens for
all passengers and 'audio video on demand' providing over 400 entertainment
choices. Qantas pioneered business class and is the only airline that offers
the award-winning Skybed business class sleeper seat on all non-stop flights
on the route.
