New oil finds in the Barents Sea
ENI Norge has found oil in a sidetrack well on the Goliat West structure, 85km off the coast of Norway in the Barents Sea.
10.01.2007 07:15
The sidetrack was drilled to a total depth of 1950 m below the sea surface and completed in Middle Triassic rocks.
The well was not production-tested, but extensive logging and core sampling were carried out. Additional drilling is planned on the production licence in the autumn of 2007.
Goliat is considered by many as one of the most promising finds in years off Norway, and earlier discoveries on the field have led to estimates that the field contains 250 million barrels of oil equivalent.
Italian oil company Eni's Norwegian subsidiary Eni Norge AS is operator and has a 65 percent interest in the field.
Partners are Norway's Statoil, with 20 percent and the small Norwegian independent oil company DNO with 15 percent.
