Abu Dhabi's Etihad Airways to start thrice-weekly flights to Singapore later this year
SINGAPORE: Etihad Airways announced Tuesday that it will start flying three times a week to Singapore from Abu Dhabi to cater to the growing demand for air travel between the two states.
The national carrier of the United Arab Emirates will start flights from Singapore on Sept. 27, the airline's chief executive officer, James Hogan, said at a press briefing.
The airline intends to fly daily from Singapore by the end of the year, depending on demand, and is currently evaluating flights to Shanghai and Beijing, Hogan said.
Etihad's fleet currently consists of 26 wide-body aircraft, which it expects to expand to 31 by the end of the year, Hogan said.
Etihad Airways, which is fully owned by the UAE government, has been flying since 2003. It currently serves 42 cities in the Middle East, Europe, Asia, Australia, and North America.
Singapore Airlines Ltd. also announced flights to Abu Dhabi three times a week earlier this year.
