In mezzo? I popoli d'Europa (e non solo). Non è ancora chiaro?
* Dall'articolo "Chechen rebels satisfied with Kosovo proclamation" (Reuters, 18 febbraio 2008):
Chechen rebel leaders have today welcomed Kosovo's unilaterally declared secession.
Chechens fighting to secede from Russia hailed Kosovo's unilateral declaration, comparing Priština's fight against Serbia to their own struggle against Moscow, Reuters says.
Russia has strongly opposed Kosovo independence, arguing that to recognize a separatist region as a new state without the consent of the country affected sets a dangerous precedent for scores of other territorial conflicts around the world.
The rebels said in a statement published by the Chechenpress website that they "welcome the declaration of state independence by Kosovo and do not question the right of the people of Kosovo to distance themselves from the state that terrorized it".
The statement, signed by Usman Ferzauli, who styles himself Chechen Foreign Minister, said Chechen rebels "have been leading an armed struggle against the world's most aggressive and militarized power for the latest 14 years".
This was a reference to mainly Muslim Chechnya's fight against Russia for independence, which led to two wars in the 1990s, a wave of guerrilla attacks in Moscow, and a brief period of autonomy before Moscow re-established control.
Chechnya is today ruled by Ramzan Kadyrov, a former Chechen warlord who switched sides and pledged allegiance to the Kremlin. The province is mainly calm, although isolated attacks continue.
"The political authority of the Ichkerian Republic (Chechnya) has always aimed, and is aiming today to fight for freedom and independence," Ferzaulik said in a statement that was issued on Sunday.

* Dall'articolo "Russia's Council of Muftis optimistic over future of independent Kosovo" (Interfax, 18 febbraio 2008):
The Russian Council of Muftis is certain that independent Kosovo will become a democratic state.
"Kosovo has the right to exist as independent state. Today the joint cohabitation of Albanians and Serbians is impossible because of a long-sanding conflict between them. A lot of sacrifices were made," Nafigullah Ashirov, a co-chairman of the Russian Council of Muftis, told Interfax on Sunday.
Independent Kosovo will "be under the protection of the European community," which proves that "Albanians in Kosovo want to protect themselves from aggressive actions that the Serbian federal authorities took, rather than to realize their whistles," the mufti said.
"The European community undertakes an obligation to guarantee security of Serbs in Kosovo," he said.
"For some reasons the western world and Russia has cool blood as to the separation of Macedonia. As to Muslims, everybody is full with emotions. They began to intimidate the world with the coming of Islamic extremism to Kosovo," Ashirov said, adding that "tendentious attitude to Muslims" is behind this position.
"There will be nothing of the kind there. There will be a normal democratic state. Nothing terrible will happen," the source said.
* Dall'articolo "Islamic Bloc Backs Kosovo Independence" (Agence France Presse, 18 febbraio 2008):
The 57-member Organization of the Islamic Conference on Monday said it supports the independence of Kosovo, whose Albanian ethnic majority are mostly Muslim.
"The islamic umma (nation) wishes the people of Kosovo and its government success in their new struggle to build a strong and prosperous country," the Islamic bloc said in a statement issued from its headquarters in the Saudi city of Jeddah.
Kosovo unilaterally declared independence from Serbia on Sunday and Prime Minister Hashim Thaci said the mainly ethnic Albanian province had requested diplomatic recognition from governments worldwide.
Independence is however bitterly opposed by Serbia, which regards Kosovo as the cradle of Serb culture and religion, and by Russia. Many countries facing separatist movements also have voiced reservations.
