Sukhoi Su-35-1 makes first flight

Sukhoi's Su-35-1 single-seat multirole fighter made its first flight from Zhukovsky, near Moscow, on 18 February. Completion of two more aircraft is due later this year.

Deliveries are scheduled from 2010-11, with the Russian air force having placed an initial order for a customised version dubbed the Su-27SM2.

Launched in 2003, the Su-35-1 features a Tikhomirov NIIP Irbis radar with a detection range of 400km (216nm), a reshaped wing and two NPO Saturn Item 117S engines with vectored thrust and supercruise capability. The airframe is designed for 6,000 flight hours or a 30-year service life.

Russia test flies '4++ generation' Su-35 strike fighter

The Sukhoi aircraft maker has conducted another test flight of its new state-of-the-art Su-35 Flanker multirole air superiority/strike fighter, the company said on Thursday.

A company spokesman said the aircraft was flown for over two hours, primarily to test the operation of its engines and control system, adding that both had performed admirably.

The manufacturer said last month that the new aircraft, billed as "4++ generation using fifth-generation technology," would enter service with the Russian Air Force in two to three years.

The Su-35, powered by two AL-37F engines, combines high maneuverability and the capability to effectively engage air targets using both guided and unguided missiles and weapon systems.

The Su-35 prototype made its maiden flight on February 18, and two more aircraft are being prepared for similar tests at an aircraft manufacturing plant in Russia's Far East.

Sukhoi, which is part of Russia's United Aircraft Corporation, is planning to export over 40 combat aircraft in 2008.

In 2007, Sukhoi exported about 50 Su-30MK2, Su-30MKM and Su-30MKI aircraft, including to Algeria, India, Malaysia, Indonesia and Venezuela.

The company also announced that its 2007 sales had grossed over 50 billion rubles ($2 billion).

Su-35 Fighter Makes Successful Second Test Flight

The 117S engines which have been installed on the Su-35 multirole fighter operated reliably and steadily during this combat aircraft’s second test flight a the Gromov Flight Research Institute, they reported at the Sukhoy firm after the completion of this cycle of tests.

“Various power plant and control system functions were tried out for more than 2 hours. The airplane’s stability and control performance was tested. There were no criticisms of the engines, systems and equipment operation,” they explained at Sukhoy.

Russia’s honored test pilot Sergey Bogdan piloted the airplane. He himself lifted the Su-35 into the air for the first time on 19 February 2008.

At the present time, assembly of two more flyable Su-35 examples is underway at the Komsomol’sk-on-Amur Yu.A. Gagarin Aviation Production Association, which is included in the Sukhoy holding company. Series production and deliveries of the fighters to Russian and foreign customers is planned for 2010 – 2011. “Its arrival into the Russian air force inventory will reinforce the country’s defense capability and also allow the Sukhoy company to remain competitive until the appearance of the fifth generation fighter in the marketplace,”” the firm’s representative emphasized.

The Su-35 is a heavily modified ultra-maneuverable multirole generation “4++” fighter. Fifth generation technologies are used in it which provide supremacy over fighters of the same class.

The airplane’s distinguishing features are a new avionics complex based on a digital information and control system and a new radar with a phased antenna array. The fighter is able to detect airborne targets at a great distance and shoot at them first.

The 117S engine is a major upgrade of the AL-31F and has a thrust of 14.5 tonnes, which exceeds the figures of the basic engine by 2 tonnes. Work on the creation and organization of series production of the 117S is being carried out on a parity basis by the Saturn scientific and production association and the Ufa motor building production association.

The Sukhoy company plans to export the Su-35 – to the countries of Southeast Asia, Africa, the Middle East and South America.

Vero, condivido al 100% con quanto da te scritto.

Secondo me, il Su-35 non è altro che un velivolo di 3ª generazione aggiornato e meglio armato rispetto ad altri velivoli della medesima epoca di progettazione.

Russia to display Su-35 fighter at Chile air show

Russia will exhibit a variety of military equipment including super-agile Su-35 multi-role fighters at the FIDAE-2008 air show, which opens on March 31 in Chile, the state-run arms exporter said Friday.

The 15th FIDAE International Air & Space Fair, a biennial air show, will be held on March 31-April 6 at the Arturo Merino Benitez international airport near Santiago.

Rosoboronexport will represent over 700 Russian defense companies and showcase about 200 exhibits including aircraft, tanks, submarines, surface ships and small arms. But the most attractive exhibit of the Russian exposition is expected to be the Su-35 Flanker-E air superiority fighter.

Bello esteticamente lo è sicuramente e di solito un bell'aeroplano è anche un buon aereo, quello che però mi sembra manchi è il corredo in cui inserire il SU 35. Nel cartone animato presente in un altro 3d si vede i Su 35 fare strage di Awacs, B52 e Typhoon come se gli aerei avversari fossero anatre sedute. La realtà è ben diversa e ad esempio quell'Awacs tanto facilmente buttato giù nella realtà terrebbe sotto controllo i piloti russi fin da quando si siedono a mensa per fare colazione. In condizioni reali per i Su35 sarebbe tutto fuorchè una passeggiata. Cosa si dice ad esempio del fatto che i piloti russi negli anni hanno dovuto drammaticamente ridurre le ore di volo? cosa dell'affidabilità dell'avionica in situazioni di combattimento? Cosa serve essere a bordo di un bell'aereo se sei sordo e cieco mentre i tuoi avversari ti vedono e ti sentono benissimo? Ho come l'impressione che la cura Putin abbia avuto solo effetti di facciata, ma la realtà - ovviamente è solo una mia opinione -sia di un sistema militare ancora allo sbando con ciclopiche carenze tecnico operative. Forse nella realtà quei Su 35 del cartone animato farebbero una cosa saggia a restare a terra.
