Conservative shadow minister Damian Green has been arrested after obtaining leaked Whitehall documents.

Mr Green, who is the shadow immigration minister, was arrested at his home in Kent by counter-terrorism police officers.
The arrest follows a series of leaks to the Conservatives about Government policy, including a sensitive memorandum from the Home Office's most senior official on crime figures earlier this month.
David Cameron, the Conservative leader, is said to be "extremely angry" about the arrest and has privately accused the Government of "Stalinesque" behaviour.
Mr Green is understood to have been arrested at lunchtime today and is still in custody. He has not been charged.
Green has been arrested after obtaining leaked Whitehall documents. Police searched his family home and his office in the House of Commons.
He was arrested for "aiding and abetting misconduct in public office".
It is claimed that nine counter-terrorism officers were involved in the arrest.
Mr Cameron has pledged his full support for the shadow immigration minister. In a statement he said: "Disclosure of this information was manifestly in the public interest. Mr Green denies any wrongdoing and stands by his action."
However, the arrest of such a senior Conservative figure who hopes to become a Home Office minister will embarrass the opposition. He is now likely to face pressure to resign from the Tory front bench.
Government sources also believe that sensitive information from the Treasury, including confidential announcements in the pre-Budget report, was leaked to the Conservatives.
In February this year, Mr Green criticised the Government over leaked documents at the Home Office.
He said: "Ministers like to talk tough about cracking down on employers but it is clear that the system is failing in our most sensitive buildings. What makes this even worse is that ministers' first instinct was to cover it up."
An alleged "whistleblower", thought to be a male Home Office official was arrested 10 days ago.
It is understood that the inquiry is focusing on four Home Office documents allegedly obtained by the Conservatives. Last November, documents from the private office of Jacqui Smith, the Home Secretary, were leaked to the opposition.
They showed that ministers had known for four months that thousands of illegal immigrants had been cleared to work as security guards but had not told Parliament.
Other documents included information about an illegal immigrant working at House of Commons and a list of Labour MPs preparing to vote against the Government's anti-terrorism measures.
Tory sources angrily pointed out that the police move came after Parliament rose for a five-day holiday.
Had the Commons been sitting, they said, MPs could have immediately raised the matter with the Speaker.
The police search of Mr Green's office had to be authorised by the Serjeant at Arms, who answers to the Speaker.
Mr Green’s constituency office was also searched.

E' uno scandalo. In Italia per una cosa del genere puoi al massimo aspirare a diventare , chennessò vice sindaco, per diventare ministro devi farla molto più grossa.. Per diventare presidente del Consiglio è indispensabile poi essere pregiudicato: berlusconi docet. E a Londra ti arrestano. Incredibile!! gli inglesi non sono "furbi" come gli italiani. La perfida Albione!!!

Il deputato conservatore britannico Damian Green [foto sopra, ndr] è stato arrestato con l'accusa di avere svelato informazioni riservate in materia di immigrazione. Lo hanno reso noto il partito Tory, il principale schieramento di opposizione, e la polizia. Secondo i Tory, Green ha reso pubblici fatti di cui il ministero dell'interno preferiva non si parlasse (1). Il parlamentare è stato portato in un commissariato per essere interrogato.

Lo hanno prelevato da casa sua, ad Ashford, in pieno pomeriggio. E a bussare alla sua porta, nei giorni degli attentati a Mumbai, sono state le unità antiterrorismo inglesi, che poi lo hanno trattenuto e interrogato fino alle 23 di ieri sera. Ma Damian Green, il ministro ombra dell’Immigrazione inglese, uno degli uomini di punta del Partito conservatore, col terrorismo non ha avuto niente a che fare. “Ha diffuso documenti e notizie che il Governo voleva tenere segrete”, hanno accusato gli uomini di sua Maestà la regina. “Tutte sciocchezze” ha replicato piccato Green dopo essere stato rilasciato “Mi hanno arrestato perché ho fatto il mio lavoro”.
Un episodio destinato a influenzare il clima politico inglese, dove - dopo mesi duri - il primo ministro Gordon Brown era riuscito a ritrovare un po’ di consenso e di dialogo con l’opposizione, grazie alla crisi economica. Un dialogo che ora rischia di andare in fumo. “È stata un’operazione stalinesca” ha attaccato il leader dei Tories David Cameron “L’hanno condotta con una durezza senza precedenti e deve essere stata autorizzata molto in alto”, ha concluso facendo intendere che il rivale Brown ne fosse a conoscenza.
Non si è fatta attendere la replica dal numero 10 di Downing Street, che è stata irremovibile. “Il primo ministro non ne sapeva nulla, è nato tutto da un’indagine interna del ministero dell’Interno”, ha fatto sapere il portavoce di Brown. Un’indagine che era rivolta a capire come certi documenti, compreso un memorandum del ministro Jacqui Smith per i colleghi di governo, fossero finiti nelle mani della stampa. Dopo la sospensione di un giovane dirigente dell’Home Office, dieci giorni fa, gli investigatori sono arrivati a Green, che aveva ricevuto dal funzionario informazioni ben precise che il Governo avrebbe voluto tenere riservate.
Da qui, l’alzata di scudi dell’opposizione. “Sembra di essere nello Zimbabwe di Mugabe” ha commentato un collega di Green “Se volevano parlare con lui non serviva questa sceneggiata, bastava alzare il telefono e chiamarlo”. Chissà se anche a Gordon Brown basterà fare così ora per riallacciare il dialogo con l’opposizione o se sarà rimesso di nuovo all’angolo.
