Le Nazioni Unite hanno accusato Israele di un gravissimo e deliberato massacro di civili nella Striscia di Gaza: stando agli elementi e alle testimonianze in possesso dell'Ocha, l'Ufficio dell'Onu per il Coordinamento degli Affari Umanitari, il 4 gennaio scorso soldati israeliani hanno costretto circa 110 palestinesi, "la metà dei quali erano bambini", a radunarsi in una casa a Zeitoun, un quartiere del capoluogo dell'enclave, ordinando loro di rimanere all'interno; ma 24 ore dopo la stessa abitazione sarebbe stata ripetutamente bombardata. I morti sarebbero stati come minimo trenta. Sotto alle rovine dell'edificio colpito dal fuoco israeliano potrebbero trovarsi ancora altri cadaveri, ha detto una donna sopravvissuta al massacro, che è adesso ricoverata all'ospedale Shifa di Gaza. Nel massacro la donna, di 29 anni, ha perso due dei suoi sei figli. L'episodio è avvenuto nella zona della ex colonia ebraica di Netzarim, a sud di Gaza, e ha colpito il clan familiare dei Sammuni. The flyer sent to The Electronic Intifada.

In addition to bombs and missiles that have killed an ever increasing number of Palestinian civilians, Israel has dropped millions of flyers on the occupied, besieged Gaza Strip.

One such flyer, an image of which was sent to The Electronic Intifada, seeks to recruit Palestinian collaborators. Signed by the "Israel Defense Forces command," and addressed to the "the residents of the Gaza Strip," the flyer states: "You hold the responsibility for your own fate!" It invites Palestinians to call or email the Israeli army "to inform us about the location of rocket launching sites and the terrorist gangs that made you hostages of their actions." Because collaboration with an occupier is universally viewed as one of the worst forms of betrayal, the flyer warns "For your own safety, please maintain secrecy when you call us."

EI decided to call the number provided. What follows is a translation of the Arabic conversation between an EI editor and an Israeli officer who identifed himself using the Arabic name "Abu Ibrahim."

Israel has used cash, but has sometimes attempted to blackmail desperately sick Palestinians by witholding access to medical care unless they collaborate. Israel may also hope that the humanitarian catastrophe it has deliberately created in the Gaza Strip will make Palestinians more vulnerable to this kind of exploitation.

Finestre e prospettive su Gaza

Serve avere una finestra su Gaza, ora? Questo fatale divenire testimoni oculari dell’ingiustizia, ci rafforza? Guardando quel poco di ciò che si può o si riesce a guardare – corpi a brandelli di bambini, donne, vecchi, “miliziani” – diventeremo più efficaci, reattivi, o più intorpiditi? Leggere l’elenco delle bombe cadute sugli edifici di Gaza, elenco che troviamo nel blog del ventitreenne Sameh Habeeb, ci rende più consapevoli? Non lo so. Voglio solo inserire qui, su NI, delle finestre su Gaza, o forse solo delle feritoie… Ma anche delle prospettive, come l’articolo di Ilan Pappe Israele e la pace, apparso su “Lo straniero” nel 2005, e quello di Raya Cohen Israeliani, palestinesi. Guerra, politica fondiaria e identità, apparso nel 2007 sul sito “Jura Gentium”. E’ uno sguardo strabico che viene richiesto, ancora una volta, oggi: che sappia non sottrarsi all’orrore, ma che sappia anche porre a distanza, analizzare, definire il disegno politico che da così tanti anni legittima l’occupazione, da parte israeliana, dei territori palestinesi.
