IS WOKE losing the culture wars?

Don't start cheering just yet, but it does appear to be losing ground, at least as far as our film and TV screens are concerned. Two developments last week show that the tide is turning.


First, the film project Batgirl, a bold new Hollywood movie, will never see the light of day. You won’t even see it on a plane, it’s so dull and predictable. Second, Mock The Week, the satirical panel show that seemingly could never die, has been put to rest by the BBC “to make room for other shows”. Batgirl is the most surprising, and expensive, volte-face. The film was “progressive” in the extreme, according to insiders. Of course, Batgirl did exist in the comic books so it wasn’t some fanciful construct. So what prevented it seeing its premiere on the big screen?

Critics in the US say Batgirl was simply putting its “progressive values” ahead of everything, not least in the storytelling one imagines. This is now commonplace I’m afraid, through TV and film. Meanwhile, I feel for Glasgow, which doubled as Gotham City. Still, the council would have had its fee for hosting such a glamorous film. It’s a rare thing: a win, win.

Parlando nella sua serie YouTube Hollywood Babble-On, Smith ha dichiarato: “È un aspetto incredibilmente brutto cancellare il film di Batgirl latina. Non me ne frega un cazzo se il film è stato una fottuta merda, ti garantisco che non lo era. I due registi che hanno diretto quel film hanno girato un paio di episodi di Ms Marvel, ed è stato un fottuto spettacolo meraviglioso e avevano più soldi per fare Batgirl che per un episodio di Ms Marvel e cose del genere.

Considerato quanto è "piaciuto" il serial di Ms. Marvel, che infatti non sarà rinnovato dopo la prima stagione, Kevin Smith appare ancora più in fase di negazione della realtà, cosa che gli ha già provocato guai con la disastrosa serie animata su He-Man.
