Russian Federation Long Range Air Force Puts All Its Airplanes into the Air

Airplanes of Russia’s Long Range Air Force made aerial patrol flights in remote regions for the first time in 2008 today. “Today, there are planned combat readiness flights in all Long Range Air Force units,” the chief of the Russian Federation air force information service and public communications, Colonel Aleksandr Drobyshevskiy, specified. - “All Long Range Air Force flight and maintenance personnel, Tu-160, Tu-95MS, Tu-22M3, Il-78 and Tu-134UBL airplanes, and also all depot and operational airfields are involved in the flights.”

As the Long Range Air Force commander, General-Major Pavel Androsov, reported today to journalists, in 2007, “the flying time of strategic aviation airmen exceeded 80 hours a year for the first time in the last 15 years.” “We resumed aerial patrol in the remote regions of the world in 2007, which has allowed our airmen to feel confidence during the flights,” he reminded ITAR-TASS. - “We trained more than 40 strategic bomber and missile carrier crews from scratch last year, fulfilling the combat training plan by 100 percent. More than 50 percent of the crews were trained for participation in Long Range Air Force aerial patrol in 2007.”

Androsov refuted some media reports which maintained that Long Range Air Force airplanes supposedly almost had expended their service life. “As of today, the airplanes have used up to 40 – 45 percent of their service life,” he noted. - “There is enough service life to fulfill missions in the remote regions.”
