Russian Helicopter Violates Finnish Airspace
A helicopter from Russia violated Finnish airspace on Saturday near Nuijamaa in southeast Finland. The Finnish Border Guard detected the helicopter around one pm.
The helicopter returned to Russia after a few minutes on the Finnish side of the border.
"The chopper was evidently a MI8 variant, which has several service uses in Russia. To me, it seemed like a surveillance flight that strayed over the border," Lieutenant Colonel Pasi Tolvanen told YLE.
The border guard detachment of South-east Finland has launched an investigation into the incident. The matter has also been reported to Russian border officials in the Vyborg region.
