Record exodus of Kiwis to Australia

Published: 11:24AM Wednesday March 21, 2012 Source: BusinessDesk

New Zealanders continued to abandon their home country for Australia,
with the speed of annual departures accelerating to a record 53,000 last month.
New Zealand lost a net 39,100 people to Australia in the 12 months ended February 29,
4,100 of whom left in the month of February alone, Statistics New Zealand said today.

That is the biggest-ever annual net loss to Australia, as just 13,900 people crossed
the Tasman to live in New Zealand, though short of the monthly record of 5,000 in February 2001.
People have been quitting New Zealand for Australia for years as they seek higher wages and
a better standard of living across the ditch, and in 2008 the National Party won
office campaigning on a promise to stem the outflow.

Against all nations, New Zealand lost a seasonally adjusted net 400 migrants in February,
taking the annual outflow to 4,100. New Zealand has lost more migrants than it gained
in 11 of the past 12 months, since the Feb. 22 earthquake in Christchurch.

The number of short-term visitor arrivals fell 3.4 percent to 259,000 in February
from the same month a year earlier, as fewer Chinese and Hong Kong residents
visited due to the earlier Chinese Lunar New Year holiday.

On an annual basis, short-term visitors rose 2.3 percent to 2.6 million people.

Forse è più azzeccata la sezione Internazionale come sezione.

Ma cmq è una notizia particolare ed interessante :giagia:

    verso l'Australia. Donne intemperanti.

Rebecca Helen Elder accused of raping man after breaking into his house to stand trial | Mail Online

Woman, 39, accused of breaking into house and raping man
Australian Rebecca Elder 'performed oral sex' on alleged victim

A woman was today ordered to stand trial in Australia, accused of breaking into a man’s home and raping him.
Rebecca Helen Elder, 39, pleaded not guilty to one count of aggravated serious criminal trespass at the man’s home, and one count of rape.
She appeared in Adelaide’s District Court this morning.

Prosecution documents, filed with the court, allege both offences took place at a suburban location between September 20 and September 23 last year.
At trial, prosecutors will allege Elder, of Parkside, broke into a house while its male occupant - who cannot be named - was lawfully on the premises.

They will also say she broke in with the intention of committing a further offence of rape.
Finally, prosecutors will accuse Elder of raping the man by performing an act of oral sex without his consent.
Judge Wayne Chivell remanded Elder on continuing bail until a directions hearing next month.

Call for limits on Kiwis crossing Ditch - National - NZ Herald News

Call for limits on Kiwis crossing Ditch

The number of New Zealanders living in Australia has jumped 24 per cent over the past five years and a new political party is calling for a limit on Kiwis crossing the Tasman.

The results of the 2011 Australian census, released yesterday, show that the number of New Zealanders living there reached 483,000 last year, up from 390,000 in 2006.
The five-year increase is almost as big as the surge in the previous decade.
Immigration expert Professor Paul Spoonley of Massey University said the figures were not surprising, especially in the context of New Zealand's relatively flat job market.
"The important push and pull is the job market, on both sides of the Tasman.

He said the figures also reflected an increasing trend in New Zealanders moving across the Ditch to be closer to family members.
"This is an increasingly important reason for [those] moving to Australia, especially as the number of New Zealanders living there continue to grow."

The figures emerged as Australia's Stable Population Party called for the abolition of the deal allowing Kiwis free access to Australia.
The party, formed after the 2010 federal election, says the transtasman immigration arrangement is a "one-way street" which benefits neither country.
It says Kiwis should have to apply to migrate and wants total net migration reduced from 180,000 to 80,000.

"It's not about keeping Kiwis out - we're happy to have a preferential migration with New Zealand - but it should be within a balanced migration programme,"
party founder and president William Bourke said. "We're just saying we don't believe in open border arrangements. In two years' time, if there's another earthquake
in Christchurch or what have you ... it seems to be getting ever bigger a one-way street and it wasn't designed that way."

Despite the close historical and economic ties with Australia, "nothing justifies an unlimited immigration programme unless New Zealand was sinking under the ocean",
he said. "In that case, humanitarian compassion would come into it ... this is a lose-lose migration arrangement because New Zealand is losing a lot of its best-trained
professionals and Australia is suffering great population stresses."
