Austrian Airlines (OS/Vienna) will start five times weekly service from Vienna to Mumbai on Mai 1, 2005 using B767-300ERs of subsidiary Lauda Air (NG/Vienna). Austrian granted its partner Slovak Airlines (6Q/Bratislava) a 5 million EUR credit to keep the airline alive, it also announced its interest in taking a majority stake in the Slovakian state carrier. Austrian however denied having any interest in the sale of Malev (MA/Budapest). It is reportedly also considering adding new routes from Vienna to Alexandria, Benghazi, Guangzhou, Iasi, Naples and Padova. Austrian will repaint an A321-200 and an A320-200 in Lauda Air colours by the end of the year from when the two aircraft will be exclusively used for charter flights.
