ROME (Reuters) - A London-based investment management company has become the second-largest shareholder in airline Alitalia after the Italian state, with over 8 percent, market regulator Consob said Friday.
Walter Capital Management had acquired 8.187 percent of Alitalia as of Dec. 21, in the wake of Alitalia's 1 billion euro ($1.2 billion) capital increase.
The Italian state lowered its majority stake to 49.9 percent with the capital increase, which will pay for a broad restructuring at the struggling airline.
Alitalia shares were flat in afternoon trading on Friday at 0.927 euro per share.
