How many rumors of new wars do Americans need before the message sinks in that neocons are both crazy and dangerous?

The Bush administration is preparing its NATO allies for a possible military strike against suspected nuclear sites in Iran in the new year, according to German media reports, reinforcing similar earlier suggestions in the Turkish news media. They do seem to have realized that they don’t have the ground troops to invade and conquer a huge country like Iran with the ever-shrinking US volunteer military. They don’t have either the time or the political capability of conscripting, training, and arming a huge army of cannon fodder for that purpose. So instead, we’re just going to bomb the hell out of the Persians and hope that makes them roll over and play dead. Apparently the neocons don’t know anything about hunting. If you wound a dangerous animal instead of killing it, you could get mauled on your way out of the jungle.

The respected German weekly Der Spiegel notes “Washington appears to be dispatching high-level officials to prepare its allies for a possible attack rather than merely implying the possibility as it has repeatedly done during the past year.” The German news agency DDP cited “Western security sources” to claim that CIA Director Porter Goss asked Turkey’s premier to provide political and logistic support for air strikes against Iranian nuclear and military targets. Goss, who visited Ankara and met the Turkish premier on Dec. 12, was also reported to have asked for special cooperation from Turkish intelligence to help prepare and monitor the operation.

The West has been promising Turkey membership in the European Union for years in order to get the Turks to go along with using their territory as a base for attacks against their Muslim neighbors. You’d think by now the Turks would have caught on. Wonder what we’re promising them now? Perhaps the Turks have been assured that the Kurds will be sold out (again). DDP cited German security sources who added that the Turks had been assured of a warning in advance if and when the military strikes take place. The Turks will be given “a green light” to mount their own attacks on the bases in Iran of the PKK, (Kurdish Workers party), which Turkey sees as a separatist group responsible for terrorist attacks inside Turkey. In other words, the Turks let us use their country as a forward air field to bomb Iran and in return we hand over the Kurds to be slaughtered by the Turks. You know, the Kurds, the only group of people in Iraq who really DID welcome the Americans as liberators? The only nationality in Iraq that really DOES support the American occupation? Bush and his neocon cabal appear all set to betray them. That will teach them to trust one single word an American President ever says again, eh?

Apparently Iran has now replaced Syria as the primary target of the neocons ever since the new Iranian President publicly denied the Holocaust and suggested that Israel’s Jewish population might be relocated to Europe. It’s not even about oil any more. The mask is off–it’s all about Israel.
