An intruder said to have been armed with a knife came close to breaking into the Israeli embassy in London last night.

Scotland Yard swooped to arrest a 33-year-old man who had scaled the wall of the building on Kensington’s Palace Green, one of the most secure roads in Britain.

A source said the man was wearing a traditional Palestinian keffiyeh headscarf, was wielding a knife and had moved close enough to attack staff.

‘From what I know someone was trying to climb into the building up the walls of the embassy and they were armed with a weapon,’ they said.

‘The weapon was a knife of some sort, he was definitely armed and was wearing a keffiyeh.

‘The people in the embassy were told to stay away from the building for a few hours.

‘He managed to get very close to where staff members were, so naturally people were absolutely terrified.

‘From my understanding he was on the walls and he got arrested by police.

Bangladesh's Islamists are readying to make political gains after being crushed for years by the government that was overthrown in a mass uprising last year, rallying hardline loyalists for eagerly anticipated elections.

"We are pretty confident about entering the parliament in the next election," Muhammad Mamunul Haque, joint secretary of Hefazat-e-Islam, an influential coalition of Islamic schools, told AFP in an interview.

The coalition will hold a mass rally in the capital Dhaka on Saturday in what is expected to be one of their biggest public shows of strength for years as religiously fuelled activism gains popularity.

Haque, 52, said the group will push to implement sharia, or Islamic law, and believes the group's network of tens of thousands of seminaries -- claiming to have some 500,000 members -- means they will do well if the vote "is free and fair".

Hefazat-e-Islam is an alliance of different parties and Muslim organisations, including Haque's Khilafat-e-Majlish party.

A hugely influential pressure group, it has been courted by political parties since it was founded 15 years ago.

No date has been set for elections but caretaker leader Muhammad Yunus, the Nobel Peace Prize winner who heads the interim government, has promised polls will be held by June 2026 at the latest.

The South Asian nation of some 170 million people last held elections in January 2024, when Sheikh Hasina won a fourth term as prime minister in the absence of genuine opposition parties.

Her opponents boycotted the vote after a crackdown.

Hasina, who was blamed for extensive human rights abuses, took a tough stand against Islamist movements during her autocratic 15-year rule.

Thousands were detained, including Haque, who was arrested in 2021 and spent three years in jail.

He faced around a dozen charges after Islamists tried to protest against a visit by Hasina's key ally Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Hindu-nationalist leader of neighbouring India.

Hasina fled to New Delhi in August as crowds stormed her palace.

She remains in self-imposed exile in India, infuriating Bangladeshis determined that she face trial for alleged "mass murder".

Islamist groups have gained strength with Hasina gone and have increasingly sought to impose their vision on the wider population.

That has sparked worries from smaller groups, including Muslim Sufi worshippers and the Hindu minority, who together account for less than a tenth of the population.

Women, in particular, have expressed concern.

Islamists have demanded an end to a swath of activities, including cultural events deemed "anti-Islamic" -- from music to theatre festivals, women's football matches and kite-flying celebrations.

Mobs have vandalised Sufi shrines. Supporters of Haque's Khilafat-E-Majlis group stormed a public library last month and carted away hundreds of books before returning them.

Golam Rabbani, a leader of Khilafat-E-Majlish's youth wing, said they had targeted books that "promoted atheism", including Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore and the national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.

Hefazat-e-Islam's rally on Saturday follows two days of marches by other key parties who are also seeking their support.

Altro incidente a Monaco dove un SUV ha investito dei passanti. La polizia non parla di attentato terroristico, ma stranamente l'auto aveva un simbolo islamico sul lunotto posteriore e l'autista non era un bianco causasico o europeo. Coincidenze, ovviamente.

Prossimo “incidente” con un SUV a Monaco: speculazioni su un attacco islamico
Ieri a mezzogiorno un SUV ha investito un gruppo di persone alla fermata del tram nel centro di Monaco . Secondo la polizia, sette persone sono rimaste ferite, tre delle quali in modo grave. L'autista è un uomo di 52 anni. Le autorità presumono attualmente che l'incidente sia avvenuto "a causa della guida". Al momento non vi è alcuna indicazione di una causa politica o ideologica, ha aggiunto. Circa 25 agenti di polizia, circa 30 vigili del fuoco e un gran numero di volontari impegnati nei soccorsi sono stati dispiegati sul posto. Tuttavia, in rete circolavano foto e video del veicolo "incidente", che mostravano la firma chiaramente riconoscibile di un sultano ottomano sul lunotto posteriore (vedere la sezione ingrandita dell'immagine dell'articolo precedente). Secondo testimoni oculari, l'autista sarebbe un uomo di aspetto turco e/o arabo.

Sorprendentemente, si tratta già del secondo incidente di questo tipo nel giro di pochi giorni. Proprio venerdì scorso, un'auto si è schiantata contro la folla a Stoccarda. Otto persone sono rimaste ferite e una donna è morta a causa delle gravi ferite riportate. "In base allo stato attuale delle indagini e alle informazioni finora disponibili, i nostri colleghi dell'operazione Olgaeck ritengono che l'incidente sia stato un tragico incidente stradale. Al momento non ci sono prove di un'aggressione o di un atto deliberato", ha dichiarato la polizia. In questo caso, un automobilista di 42 anni ha perso il controllo della sua auto mentre svoltava.

Preoccupazione per un nuovo insabbiamento ufficiale
Nonostante tutte le dichiarazioni ufficiali contrarie, su entrambi i casi crescono le speculazioni, che sorprendono per la troppo frettolosa classificazione come incidente, viste le grandi somiglianze con gli attentati terroristici degli ultimi anni. Ciò non sorprende, data la politica informativa del governo in questi casi. Quando i terroristi avevano un background migratorio, si faceva di tutto per nascondere questo fatto il più a lungo possibile, finché gli incidenti non scomparivano dai titoli dei giornali, cosa che accadde rapidamente grazie alla tendenza ideologica di sinistra di molti organi di informazione. Poi hanno fatto ricorso al metodo di dichiarare frettolosamente i responsabili “malati di mente”, e all’improvviso i servizi segreti russi hanno dovuto trasformarsi nel sinistro artefice del terrore dei migranti.

Molti ora temono che gli attacchi terroristici vengano frettolosamente classificati come incidenti per nascondere la portata del pericolo. Anche se molte di queste affermazioni alla fine si rivelassero insostenibili, le preoccupazioni evidenti e giustificate dei cittadini dimostrano comunque fino a che punto questo Stato abbia perso la fiducia di ampi strati della popolazione.
