baghdad is cut off from the south, west and north

Latifiyah is a resistance stronghold that controls the road south of Baghdad. Latifiyah is also a great place to invest if you're in the scrap metal business because of all the US convoys that are getting blown up there. More convoys are getting blown up at Abu Ghraib, which means getting to the airport is a major problem. With both the western and southern arteries blocked by the resistance, there is no rescue in sight for the 1000 Marines in Fallujah.
I specaulated in my latest analysis that the mutineers of the 343rd were ordered to make the suicidal drive through Latifiyah from their base 175 miles south of Baghdad to Taji aribase 12 miles north of the city because the main support base Anaconda, which is much nearer, was under attack. Turns out I was right. The logistics supply area Anaconda at Balad has been attacked several times a day every day of this reprot, with 5-6 GI's being put away with every attack.
The 1st infantry division is supposed to secure Anaconda but can't because it's trying to hold back the resistance at Samarra. You can see how successful THAT's been because even the convoys that manage to make it out of Balad get hit at Samarra.
So that north, west, and south. Nothing on Baquba so we don't know the situation in the east, but theresistance was doing pretty good there too last week.
My take isthat Baghdad is ripe for the picking. The resistance may not even wait to mount a big shock assault. Why give US bombs a mice juicy target when you can chew the US's ass off piece by piece. It's the death by a thousand cuts, or the swim in the piranha pool, whichever they prefer.
