"di" o "da"

Could someone explain to me how to know when "di" should be used and when "da" should be used?

It's easy:each time you want to translate "of" you must use "di".
"Da" it's a different preposition,it can take different meanings but yo'll better use it when you want to transalte "from"

I.E:I'm from Rome=io vengo DA roma

An event of extraordinaty importance=un evento di straordinaria importanza.

but...

i am from rome = io sono DI roma, and NOT 'io sono da roma'

the form 'io vengo da roma' is less used

DA means also BY

played by xxx= eseguita DA xxx


of is always DI

from is mostly DA, but sometime also DI,
DI when from means "belong to" DA when means 'coming from'

then io sono DI roma because one belongs to rome.

This is a particular translation of "very interesting".
