Airbus Chief Commercial Officer John Leahy said the "chaos" surrounding the A350 program is unprecedented and needs to be settled soon."Some outspoken customers of ours have created some confusion and the press has amplified that confusion," Leahy said at the Airbus technical press briefing in Toulouse. "I don't think it's ever happened before that an [aircraft] program has been launched and then there's been a public debate over the design." He said no decision has been made on a redesign but insisted the "uncertainty will end by the [Farnborough] air show" that begins July 17.

According to its website, Airbus had received firm orders for 100 A350s through May 31. However, yesterday Leahy said it has sold about half the number of A350s--182 firm orders from 14 customers--as Boeing has sold 787s, which he claimed is not unexpected given that the 787 program was launched three years earlier.

"I've got one-third of the market even though we're three years behind," Leahy said. "It had been selling extremely well until there were stories in the press [regarding a redesign]...If we stayed where we were, we'd have 30% of the market, which is pretty good...All this chaos in the press right now has stopped everybody from placing orders. So we've go to end [the speculation] at some point."

Mah, chi lo sa? Di certo avrebbero potuto essere più fermi nelle scelte.

oppure avrebbero potuto proporre un disegno che non fosse un A330 con le winglet leggermente diverse e i motori del 787.
Avrebbero potuto andarci cauti e cominciare seriamente a pensare a una nuova famiglia che sostituisse A330 e A340 di tutte le versioni. Magari aspettando un'altro anno prima del lancio ufficiale, lasciando ancora il terreno libero a Boeing, ma almeno sarebbero venuti fuori con qualcosa di molto piu' valido.
Hanno combinato un vero casino.
Spero che riescano a riprendersi. Non vorrei che si tornasse a un monopolio americano nel settore degli aerei da oltre 100 posti. Almeno in passato, anche se tutte americane, c'era la scelta tra Boeing, McDonnel Douglas e, in maniera molto piu' limitata, Lockheed

E' una ruota che gira. Immagina che succederà se il 787 non fuinzionerà a dovere...ops, mi sono incartato, se il 787 non funzionasse a dovere nessuno lo direbbe, anzi ne esalterebbero le enormi qualità aerodinamiche e funzionali.....
