La morte della Bhutto

La morte di Benazir Bhutto lo scorso 27 Dicembre butta ombre ancora più pesanti sul futuro del Pakistan, paese in bilico, fra un regime militare ed il baratro islamista.



La Bhutto, ex premier pakistan, proveniente da una famiglia molto potente in Pakistan, suo padre Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, è stato anch'egli primo ministro. Laureata ad Harvard a poi studiato ad Oxford. Ha preso la guida del PPP(partito del popolo pakistano) e lo ha guidato alla vittoria nel 1988. Premier per due volte dal 1988 al 1990 e dal 1993 al 1997, la Bhutto è sempre caduta per problemi di corruzione. Il suo ritorno in patria è stato accolto con grande tripudio.



La politica della Bhutto, nei suoi due governi è stata incentrata su una islamizzazione, supportò l'ascesa dei talebani in Afganistan, fisso primariamente l'emancipazione femminile. Suo padre fu il fndatore della dottrina nucleare pakistana, in risposta al test indiano del 1974, e fu proprio sotto la Bhutto che il Pakistan ottenne l'arma nucleare.

Stati Uniti: President George Bush strongly condemned the assassination, urging her killers to be brought to justice. Bush condemned the assassination as a "cowardly act by murderous extremists," and encouraged Pakistan to "honor Benazir Bhutto's memory by continuing with the democratic process for which she so bravely gave her life."Bush also offered some strong praise of Bhutto, noting that "she knew that her return to Pakistan earlier this year put her life at risk. Yet she refused to let assassins to dictate the course of her country."

Russia: President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to friends and relatives of the victims as well as hope that the perpetrators will be found and punished. He also commented that "forces of terrorism are challenging not only Pakistan, but the international community".

Francia: President Nicolas Sarkozy "condemned the odious act with the greatest severity," stating that "terrorism and violence have no place in the democratic debate and in the combat of ideas and programmes. More than ever it is necessary for the legislative elections to take place in conditions of pluralism, transparency and security."

Cina: A Foreign Ministry spokesperson Qin Gang said that China was "shocked at the killing of Pakistan's opposition leader Benazir Bhutto" and "strongly condemns the terrorist attack."

India: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said he was "deeply shocked and horrified to hear of the heinous assassination of Mrs. Benazir Bhutto. Mrs. Bhutto was no ordinary political leader, but one who left a deep imprint on her time and age. Her contributions to a previous moment of hope in India–Pakistan relations, and her intent to break India Pakistan relations out of the sterile patterns of the past, were exemplary. In her death, the sub-continent has lost an outstanding leader who worked for democracy and reconciliation in her country. The manner of her going is a reminder of the common dangers that our region faces from cowardly acts of terrorism and of the need to eradicate this dangerous threat. My heartfelt condolences go to her family and the people of Pakistan who have suffered a grievous blow."

Ci sono nuove in senso di una posticipazione della data delle elezioni per via del clima di tensione in questo gigante asiatico.

Islamabad, 2 gennaio 2008 - Si terranno il 18 febbraio prossimo le elezioni in Pakistan. E' "impossibile" andare alle urne l'8 gennaio, ha spiegato Qazi Mohammed Farooq riferendosi ai danni causati dalle violenze successive all'omicidio di Benazir Bhutto. E due giorni dopo, il 10 gennaio, inizia il mese sacro del
Muharram-ul-Haram. La decisione è stata anninciata dalla Commissione elettorale Centrale di Islamabad nel cordo di una conferenza stampa.

Intanto i due maggiori partiti dell'opposizione pakistana, quelli che fanno capo ai due ex premier, Benazir Bhutto e Nawaz Sharif, parteciperanno alle prossime elezioni politiche nonostante il rinvio. Lo hanno annunciato i dirigenti del Partito popolare pakistano della Bhutto e della Lega Musulmana del Pakistan-Gruppo Nawaz che fa capo a Sharif.
