Taliban Critic Stabbed in London, Attackers Flee Scene

Natiq Malikzada, a civil activist and outspoken critic of the Taliban, was attacked with a knife by two unidentified individuals in London on Thursday night, sources close to him told Afghanistan International.

According to the sources, Malikzada sustained multiple stab wounds in the chest, shoulder, and hand.

His relatives reported that two masked individuals entered his home and assaulted him with a knife before fleeing the scene. They further claimed that the attackers were also Afghan nationals.

Following the incident, Malikzada managed to seek help from a neighbour, who assisted him in alerting the police and emergency services.

Sources confirmed that Malikzada is currently receiving medical care in a hospital, where police have implemented security measures. His condition is reported to be stable.

Afghanistan International has obtained an image of him lying on a hospital bed after the attack.

The Metropolitan Police have not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.

Malikzada is an active user on the X social media platform, where he frequently criticises Taliban policies.

A day before the attack, he had posted a warning about the Taliban’s influence in the UK, writing “A few years ago, if you’d told me I’d censor myself in the UK because of the Taliban, I would’ve laughed. Now I’m holding back as the UK has become like the Taliban’s Western capital. I’m not anti-immigration (I’m an immigrant), but it’s frightening how the UK has fallen to the Taliban.”

Taliban officials have previously threatened exiled critics with attacks.

Last year, Saeed Khosty, a former Taliban Interior Ministry spokesperson, openly stated that those campaigning against the Taliban should be “killed”. He further claimed that the group had “hundreds of volunteers” ready to target its opponents abroad.

Additionally, in February 2024, Mohammad Nabi Omari, the Taliban’s Deputy Interior Minister, declared that, if necessary, the Taliban could target their opponents outside Afghanistan for as little as 500 Pakistani rupees.

The attack on Malikzada has raised concerns about the safety of Afghan dissidents living in exile, particularly in the UK.

On 17th February, Beawar police busted a gang of Muslim men who were trapping Hindu girls, raping them, and forcing them to convert to Islam. According to the latest reports on the matter, it has come to light that these men were teaching Hindu girls about namaz, roza, and reciting the Kalma (Islamic declaration of faith). Furthermore, they were pressuring the girls to wear burqas and brainwashing them for religious conversions.

One of the victims said in her statement that her hand was cut with a blade when she refused to keep roza. They were subjected to continuous sexual exploitation. The initial interrogation of the accused and statements of the victims have revealed horrifying details.

All accused illiterate, lured girls with notes
Reports suggest that all the accused in the matter, including Rehan Mohammad (20), Sohail Mansuri (19), Lukman (20), Arman Pathan (19), Sahil Qureshi (19), and two minors, are illiterate. None of them attended school. Some of them worked at a welder’s shop, while others were labourers at a furniture store. However, they were targeting Hindu girls studying in Class 10 at a school. These girls lived nearby and often passed through the area where the Muslim men lived while going to school.

One of the victims recounted that Sohail Mansuri followed her from school to home for 15 days. He threw notes at her with his phone number. One day, the girl called him, and he asked her to meet him at a café, where he sexually assaulted her. The victim said that he took photos of her during the assault. Sohail was joined by other Muslim men in the act. Following the incident, Sohail began to torture her into talking to his friend.

The head of Sweden's last Muslim school must resign

Domestic. The Swedish School Inspectorate has decided that the chairman of the board of Växjö Islamic School is no longer suitable to run a school and must resign by April 25. The decision comes after he preached about jihad during a Friday prayer, something that was also caught on film.

It was in the spring of 2024 that the Swedish School Inspectorate received information about possible abuses at the school, which is the last remaining Muslim school in Sweden.

The authority then initiated a review to assess the suitability of the staff. Following the inspection, it has now been determined that the school's chairman of the board, who also serves as the operations manager, is not allowed to continue in his position.

In a press release, the school writes that it "takes the School Inspectorate's decision very seriously and will report the measures taken to the authority within the specified timeframe."

The background to the decision is a sermon during a Friday prayer in which the school principal is said to have said, among other things, that “the vulnerable situation of Muslims in the world today is due to Muslims having abandoned jihad and that it is not taught in schools and homes.” He is also said to have urged “teaching our children to carry out jihad” and told of how the Prophet Muhammad’s companions prioritized jihad over dates.

The chairman of the board denies the accusations and claims that the statements were taken out of context and that mistranslations were made. However, the Swedish School Inspectorate, which has received assistance from the Centre against Violent Extremism (CVE), states that the sermon was exclusively about jihad as an armed struggle. The authority thus dismisses the objections.

Växjö Islamic School now has until April 25 to remove the representative. If this does not happen, more serious measures may be taken.
