Germany: Syrian man threatens woman in public for allegedly wearing indecent clothing on Ramadan

On Wednesday afternoon ( March 19), a 46-year-old Syrian man and a 17-year-old Syrian woman allegedly got into an argument on the station forecourt in Mühldorf am Inn. The man is said to have said that he did not agree with the 17-year-old’s style of dress, called her a ‘whore’ and threatened her with serious physical violence. The federal police are now investigating various criminal offences.

At around 4.30 p.m., a citizen reported a verbal argument between two people on the forecourt of Mühldorf am Inn railway station to the Federal Police. Officers from the local federal police station encountered both people, a 46-year-old Syrian national and a 17-year-old Syrian woman unknown to him. The accused allegedly threatened to hit her on the head and kick her on the ground. He also allegedly called her a ‘hooker’, ‘slut’ and ‘whore’. The reason: her style of dress during the fasting month of Ramadan. The scene is said to have been recorded on film by bystanders and the injured party.

A check of the suspect’s personal details revealed that he was already known to the police for various criminal offences. These included: Assault, insult, theft, sexual assault, resistance and assault on law enforcement officers. For the latter offence, the remainder of a prison sentence of one year and ten months was suspended and a supervision order (Section 68b StGB) was issued against the accused. This stipulates that the 46-year-old may not consume alcohol or narcotics during the probation period. He must prove this through checks several times a month. Violations of the conditions of the supervision order are punishable by law (Section 145a StGB).

Federal police officers measured the accused’s breath alcohol level at 2.25 per mille and found various bottles of high-proof alcohol in his rucksack. He now faces criminal proceedings for insulting behaviour, threatening behaviour and breach of supervision. Whether this will lead to the revocation of his probation will have to be examined by the enforcement chamber at Traunstein District Court.

A mother who forced her daughter to marry her eventual murderer has lost an appeal against her prison sentence.
Sakina Muhammad Jan, 48, challenged her three-year jail term in the Victorian Court of Appeal, claiming she should have been shown mercy and spared jail time.
But the appeal was thrown out on Friday after the court found the sentence was adequate given the seriousness of the crime.

Jan was the first person in Australia to be sentenced for causing a person to enter into a forced marriage since it became an offence in 2013.
She was in May 2024 found guilty of forcing her daughter Ruqia Haidari to marry Mohammad Ali Halimi in August 2019.
Halimi killed his young bride five months after their wedding and is serving a life sentence for her murder.
Jan's barrister Patrick Tehan KC argued the sentence was manifestly excessive and the sentencing judge failed to consider Ms Haidari's death was extra-curial punishment for his client.
But Justices Karin Emerton and Lesley Taylor ruled the judge was correct to sentence Jan to an immediate term of imprisonment.
"It must be the expectation generally that anyone who coerces another into marriage against their will lose their liberty as a result," the judgment read.
"The actual sentence imposed was well within the sound exercise of the judge's sentencing discretion."

SURABAYA, Indonesia (Morning Star News) – A rash of complaints to police in Indonesia accusing Christians of blasphemy on social media has driven several of them abroad to seek refuge, sources said.

Christian apologist Edwin Hutabarat, also known as “Metatron,” is now in the Netherlands after radical Muslims from the Anti-Blasphemy Community Alliance on Nov. 7 reported him to the Cyber ​​Unit of the Special Crime Directorate of the East Java Regional Police.

The hardline Muslims complained to police about three YouTube channels run by Edwin – Suara Sejati, Blesmigad and Sang Debaters – with one of the complainants, Basori Alwi, telling media the channels spread content insulting Islam and distorting the Quran, according to AyoJatim.com.

“In the videos from the YouTube channel, the reported party is seen deliberately distorting the meaning and interpretation of the Quran,” Basori reportedly said. “Their narrative is hurtful to Muslims because the Prophet Muhammad was accused of committing adultery with his maid, committing immoral acts and having a group with Allah.”

A Muslim also filed a blasphemy complaint to police on Edwin’s YouTube channel co-host, known as Agatha of Palermo, as she has reportedly fled to Italy. Johan Muhamad Junaedi of Indonesia Islam Apologetics Jakarta along with its satellite town regional leadership board reported her to Metro Jaya Police Headquarters in Jakarta on Nov. 1, according to Indonesia’s official news agency, Antara.

They accused her of making blasphemous comments about Islam and its prophet, Muhammad, on a livestream of her Benteng77 YouTube channel on Oct. 28.

“Agatha of Palermo said that the Prophet Muhammad was fond of having multiple women and was a human trader and afraid of water when defecating, and so on,” Johan reportedly said. “We hope there will be no more blasphemers, and it will be a deterrent. We want peace in the Republic of Indonesia.”

Other Indonesian Christian apologists have used their temporary residences abroad to operate social media. Dewi Bulan broadcasts her ideas against Islam and Muslims from her base in the United States through her TikTok Account, @WeareforMurtadin.

Abraham Ben Moses, previously known as Sjaifuddin Ibrahim, a former Muslim lecturer at an Islamic college and now a Christian pastor, was imprisoned for blasphemy from 2018 to 2022 and later again charged with blasphemy for proposing to remove 300 quranic verses that he deemed unfriendly to non-Muslims. His actions sparked outrage among hardline Muslims, leading to a call for a six-year prison sentence and a fine of 1 billion rupees.

He avoided prosecution by fleeing to the United States, as did another Christian apologist, Sofia al-Hayat, according to reports.

In Indonesia the state is usually absent when Christians are persecuted but shows up large when Muslims in the Muslim-majority country face opposition, said Pastor Nicky Jefta Wakkary of the Protestant Church in Indonesia (Gereja Protestan di Indonesia, or GPdI) in Cibinong, West Java Province.

“The state is not present when minorities are persecuted – though the intolerant take refuge in the majority – and the state is powerless in this situation [of persecution of minorities],” Pastor Nicky told Morning Star News. “From a missiological perspective, our Christian apologetics abroad have positive aspects, because the law is unfairly enforced here.”

Bonar Tigor Naipospos, deputy chairman of the Setara Institute for Democracy and Peace, said he understood why Christian apologists take refuge abroad.

“Here, in Indonesia, they cannot speak freely because they probably receive physical threats and be criminalized on blasphemous charges,” he said.

Bonar said Christian apologists feel the need to debate because fundamentalist Islamic groups have insulted Christianity as wrong teaching.

“The raging debate on social media is a reaction to the efforts of Islamic puritan groups to degrade Christianity as a ‘wrong’ teaching that has to be corrected by Islam,” Bonar told Morning Star News. “Puritan and intolerant groups do use the issue of Christianization by taking the example of the establishment of churches in many places as a threat to Islam.”

The share of Indonesia’s population that is Muslim is 83.3 percent, with 11.43 percent of citizens identifying as Christian and 3.23 percent as evangelicals, according to the Joshua Project.

Indonesian society has adopted a more conservative Islamic character, and churches involved in evangelistic outreach are at risk of being targeted by Islamic extremist groups, according to Christian support organization Open Doors.

DAKAR, Senegal -- An attack by a jihadi group on a village in western Niger has killed 44 civilians, the country's Interior Ministry said.

The attack took place on Friday afternoon in the village of Fambita in the rural commune of Kokorou, near the tri-state border with Mali and Burkina Faso, the ministry said in a statement. It blamed the attack on the Islamic State in the Great Sahara, or EIGS.

The Associated Press was not able to reach out to the EIGS for comment.

“Around 2 p.m., while Muslim worshippers were performing Friday prayers, these heavily armed terrorists surrounded the mosque to carry out their massacre of rare cruelty,” the statement read. The gunmen also set fire to a market and houses before retreating, it added.

The provisional death toll is at least 44 civilians, with 13 severely injured, the ministry said. It declared three days of national mourning

Niger, along with its neighbors Burkina Faso and Mali, has for over a decade battled an insurgency fought by jihadi groups, including some allied with al-Qaida and the Islamic State group.
