Spanish police have arrested 11 Pakistani nationals on suspicion of belonging to the banned terrorist organization, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

According to Spanish media, a joint operation by the National Police, Mossos d'Esquadra, and the Italian Polizia di Stato led to the arrests in Barcelona. The suspects are accused of ties to a Pakistani-origin terrorist organization that promoted violent actions—including murders and beheadings—via encrypted communication channels.

Investigations reveal that the group, allegedly linked to TTP and also known as the “Pakistani Taliban,” operated with a hierarchical structure. The organization used instant messaging platforms to indoctrinate followers and identify potential targets in Europe.

The Spanish National Police stated that the investigation is part of the third phase of an ongoing operation that has resulted in 30 arrests in Spain over the past three years. Of the detainees, ten were apprehended in Barcelona and its metropolitan area, while one was arrested in Italy.

Media reports further suggest that one of the communication channels was managed exclusively by women, who not only promoted indoctrination but also played an active role in selecting potential victims.

Police detained some 200 demonstrators in İstanbul late on Saturday after more than 3,000 women marched peacefully through the city center under tight security to mark International Women’s Day, Agence France-Presse reported, citing the organizers.

For years protests have been banned in the city’s central Taksim Square, which is routinely fenced off with barriers. However, authorities in recent years have tolerated rallies nearby, albeit under a heavy security presence.

The Feminist Night March rally began at sunset near Taksim, with many demonstrators wearing purple and waving banners with slogans including “We won’t be silenced, we’re not afraid and we won’t obey” and “Long live our feminist struggle.”

Although the march ended without incident, organizers said police then began rounding up protesters, posting footage showing officers roughly dragging several demonstrators out of the crowd.

“After the #FeministNightMarch finished and the crowd dispersed without incident, the police started to detain our friends in an act of provocation,” the march organizers wrote on X.

Shock for passengers on an InterCity Express train: the train was halted in Gifhorn (Lower Saxony) and then evacuated. The reason: an Afghan had triggered a threatening situation!

In the Lower Saxony district town of Gifhorn (population 43,000), Deutsche Bahn brought an ICE train to an unscheduled stop at around 9.40 a.m. on Tuesday morning and then evacuated it.

The reason: an Afghan man (aged 44) caused a threatening situation on the ICE 541, which was travelling from Cologne to Berlin.

According to a police spokesperson, the man allegedly threatened the train crew with a knife and another dangerous object during the journey.

During the stop in Gifhorn, the 44-year-old was arrested by police officers. ‘The man was taken into custody by the first police officers,’ said the spokesperson for the Hanover Federal Police.
The ICE was evacuated due to the dangerous object that was possibly still on the train. The 340 passengers were escorted to the station forecourt by police officers and then travelled on to Wolfsburg by various means of public transport.

Arriving federal police officers, including two dog handlers with service dogs, searched the train at Gifhorn station and gave the all-clear shortly afterwards. Initially, no information was available on possible casualties or the number of passengers affected.

An attempt is being made to organise an alternative transport service for the passengers so that they can continue their journey from Wolfsburg if possible.
The arrested man is not an unknown to the police: Earlier that morning, the Afghan had insulted the staff of another train at Hanover Central Station and threatened them with violence because they refused to take a bicycle on board the ICE. Federal police officers then initiated criminal proceedings for insulting and threatening behaviour.

A further investigation was initiated for disturbing the public peace by threatening to commit criminal offences.

7 out of 10 Paris women say they have been victims of sexual violence on public transport


Women are increasingly unsafe in French buses and trains, with law enforcement releasing figures that show there has been an 86 percent increase in victims on public transport in the last ten years, according to the National Observatory on Violence against Women (Miprof). This increase is largely due to the role of foreigners committing such cases.

In terms of sexual assault, women are the victims in 91 percent of all cases, according to the survey from the Ministerial Statistical Service for Internal Security (SSMSI). Of those victims, 75 percent of them are under 30, and 36 percent of those them are minors.

In 2024, there were 3,374 victims of sexual violence on public transport, which is 6 percent more than 2023, 9 percent more than 2022, and 86 percent more than 2016. An incredible 44 percent of the victims were in the Paris region, which is located in Île-de-France, as reported by Le Figaro.

It should be noted that this data comes at the same time that France’s migration population has exploded, with 63 percent of those arrested for sexual assault and 92 percent for petty theft in public transport being foreigners, according to data from 2019. Similar data is seen in Germany, where 59 percent of all sexual assaults on German trains are attributed to foreigners, with sexual crimes doubling since 2019.

“While most violence against women is committed by members of their close circle, the fact remains that public spaces, and particularly public transport networks, remain places where women are exposed to sexist and sexual violence as soon as they enter them,” notes Miprof Secretary General Roxana Maracineanu.

The survey also shows that seven out of 10 women who live in the Île-de-France region have already been victims of sexual violence during their lifetime.
