Well, being in a political forum I will ask you some USA political questions.
- How the USA citizens vote? i.e., they vote a party because they're longtime attached to it (having the same ideology)? Or simply they vote the party looking better defending their interest?
- What's the american "common man" opinion about Supreme Court? Is Supreme Court generally respected or heavily criticized?
Il liberalismo è la suprema generosità.

There are some who vote along a party line because that's the way they've always voted, or worse yet, because that's the way their parents always voted.Originally posted by Ortega

They will sometimes vote for an independent or a person of another party if they're not happy with their own party's candidate. There are others (about a third of the voters) who are independent. Then there are the ones who can't be bothered with such a boring thing as voting.

It's hard to say what the "common American's" opinion is about anything, since nobody even knows what the "common American" is. Basically, most people's opinion of the Supreme Court at any given moment would depend on whether they agree or disagree with the latest decision.

Many thanks.

There is a lot of young people who prefer to listen Britney Spears than Ted Kennedy or Buchanan, I presume...
In Italy too there is a quite significative astenionism, although italian politics surely is more entertaining than american!
Now a linguistic question: what does american people want to mean, when they say : "so what?"
I still not have understood it...
Il liberalismo è la suprema generosità.

"So what?" is used to show that the person using it doesn't care about what the other person just said. For instance, if one kid tells another his shirt is ugly, the second kid might answer "so what?" to show he doesn't care what the other kid thinks about his shirt.Originally posted by Ortega

I looked up "so what?" in the dictionary and it says "e allora?" in Italian. Is that correct?

Why I did not found it in my dictionary?! I urgently need a bigger dictionary!
However, now I do understand! Many thanks (especially for the example.
"E allora?" is a good equivalent expression. But in commonly spoked language, is more used the expression "e chi se ne frega?" Literally "and who brush of it"? It's perceived as a bit more gross than "e allora?", but is really used.

The dictionary I use is the Webster's New World Italian Dictionary (Italian/English - English/Italian). It has a lot of common phrases.Originally posted by Ortega

Hi!
I voted for Bush because I agree with his ideology. I'm conservative, so I see you and I are at opposite ends of the political spectrum.![]()
You don't have to apologize for your English. This is an Italian forum, so I should be the one apologizing for my Italian (or lack of it.) Maybe eventually I'll be able to carry on conversations in Italian and have people actually understand me.![]()
Thank you very much for this great lesson.
People in Italy has to understand and to accept the diversity of opinion.
Ciao.
