Of the 11 flyovers that HT visited on Thursday, at least five were in bad shape. While some had huge potholes, leading to traffic jams, others weren’t level. Interlocking tiles in some cases had sunk, while in others, the tar surface had eroded completely

Over R.K. Studio junction at Anushakti Nagar on Sion-Trombay Road PROBLEMS: First developed problems in February 2004, when a metre-long slab collapsed. Deterioration due to use by heavy vehicles was blamed. Flyover still closed for heavy vehicles. Opened in 2000, it was built in 14 months and was part of Mumbai Traffic Improvement Mega Project. PROBLEMS: The flyover is being widened and one lane is being used for two-way traffic. However, the road surface is very bad, with divider blocks strewn all over and huge craters. The road is particularly dangerous at night as there are no streetlights. This is a part of the bigger project of widening Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road. LENGTH: 1,100 metres; COST: Rs 30 crore PROBLEMS: Uneven surface, joints are bumpy. Potholes unevenly filled up RCF JUNCTION, Eastern Express Highway Crosses over Eastern Express Highway, carrying heavy traffic from Wadala Truck Terminus.
