Seconda morte sospetta in pochi mesi tra i whistleblower legati allo scandalo dei malfunzionamenti degli aerei Boeing .

L’ingegnere meccanico Josh Dean, ex addetto al controllo di qualità nella società Spirit AeroSystem, fornitrice di Boeing per alcuni componenti dei 737 Max è morto martedì scorso, 30 aprile, dopo aver lottato due settimane con una strana e improvvisa infezione.

La notizia è stata diffusa poche ore fa. Dean, di Wichita, Kansas, dove ha sede la società Spirit, è stato uno dei primi whistleblower a sostenere che il management della sua azienda aveva chiuso un occhio sui difetti di fabbricazione del Boeing 737 Max.

L’ingegnere “talpa” di Spirit aveva 45 anni, era in buona salute ed era noto per il avere uno stile di vita sano, racconta The Seattle Times.

Il portavoce di Spirit, Joe Buccino in una nota ha espresso il cordoglio della società: «I nostri pensieri sono con la famiglia di Josh Dean. Questa perdita improvvisa è una notizia incredibile per noi e per i suoi cari».

Dean aveva testimoniato in un procedimento giudiziario contro gli azionisti di Spirit e aveva anche presentato un reclamo alla Federal Aviation Administration sostenendo la «condotta grave da parte dei responsabili della qualità coinvolti nella linea di produzione del 737» della sua società Spirit.

Carol Parsons, la zia di Dean, ha raccontato, che l’uomo due settimane era andato in ospedale perché aveva problemi a respirare poco più di due settimane fa. È stato subito intubato e ha sviluppato una polmonite e poi una grave infezione batterica, Le sue condizioni sono peggiorate rapidamente ed è stato trasportato in aereo da Wichita a un ospedale di Oklahoma City.

Lì, gravissimo, è stato posizionato nella macchina che fa circolare e ossigena il sangue dei pazienti fuori dal corpo, assumendo il controllo della funzione cardiaca e polmonare quando gli organi non funzionano più da soli, sedato e sottoposto a dialisi. Sua madre ha pubblicato un messaggio su Facebook raccontando tutti i dettagli e dicendo che Dean stava «lottando per la sua vita». Una Tac aveva rivelato che aveva anche avuto un ictus.

Two U.S. House Republicans, aggrieved by Speaker Mike Johnson’s bipartisanship amid divided government, said Wednesday they plan to force a vote next week on removing him from the leadership office — despite the extremely long odds of success.

Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie held a press conference just steps from the Capitol, calling for lawmakers and Johnson to use the weekend to think through how they want to vote on the so-called motion to vacate.

She also rebuked Democrats for their plans to support Johnson’s speakership, implying it would be problematic for them when voters decide on whether to reelect lawmakers in November.

“I can’t wait to see Democrats go out and support a Republican speaker. And have to go home to their primaries and have to run for Congress again, having supported a Republican speaker, a Christian conservative,” Greene said. “I think that’ll play well. I’m excited about it.”

“I also can’t wait to see my Republican Conference show their cards and show who we are because voters deserve it,” she added. “Have the Republican Party finally learned their lesson, have they finally heard the message from voters back at home?”

Congress, which is split between Republican control of the House and Democratic control of the Senate, has passed too many bipartisan bills during Johnson’s six months in leadership, Greene said.

That includes the government funding packages approved in March; a reauthorization of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act; and the military and humanitarian assistance package for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan approved in April.

Massie rejected the bipartisan legislation as well, pointing to two posters staff had set up at the press conference showing Johnson and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries of New York holding the gavel and hugging.

The two leaders, Massie contended, should be “archrivals,” not working together to advance bipartisan legislation through Congress.

“This is about who holds that gavel,” Massie said. “Right now, they are both holding that gavel. They are sharing power about procedures, about what bills will come to the floor, about how long we will debate those bills and which committees are comprised of which members.”
Johnson: ‘This motion is wrong’

Johnson, a Louisiana Republican, released a written statement after the press conference saying the motion to vacate is not the right path forward.

“This motion is wrong for the Republican Conference, wrong for the institution, and wrong for the country,” Johnson wrote.

House Democratic Leaders released a statement Tuesday saying the party would support Johnson during a floor vote, likely dooming efforts to oust him from the speaker’s office given the slim GOP majority.

Arizona GOP Rep. Paul Gosar supports removing Johnson from the leadership post as well, but was unable to attend the press conference Wednesday due to a scheduling conflict, according to Greene.

Many of the Republican Party’s other far-right members, including Freedom Caucus Chairman Bob Good of Virginia, have said the best time to have internal debates about House leadership is after the November elections.

Greene said during the Wednesday press conference that the vote will give all Americans the chance to see which lawmakers support Johnson remaining speaker and which want to remove him from leadership.

“This vote will be called next week and I just want to urge all our colleagues to prepare for it,” Greene said. “It’s the right thing to do for America. It’s time to clean house and get our conference in order and get ready to support President Trump’s agenda, God willing he wins in November.”

Trump has publicly expressed support for Johnson remaining speaker in the last month, saying during a joint appearance at Mar-a-Lago that Johnson is “doing a very good job” and then, following the foreign aid vote, that “he’s a very good person.”

House Democrats met Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's (R-Ga.) plan to force a vote on ousting Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) with dismissal and derision.

Why it matters: Democrats hope that a resounding defeat for Greene will crush her nascent revolt and discourage right-wing hardliners from continuing to try to throw the House into chaos.

"She is about to realize her inevitable irrelevance," one senior House Democrat told Axios just minutes after Greene made her announcement.
Another senior House Democrat cast Greene's motion as "drama that hurts Republicans."

Driving the news: During a press conference outside the Capitol on Wednesday morning, Greene told reporters she will force a vote on her motion to vacate the speaker's chair next week.

"Next week, I am going to be calling this motion to vacate. Absolutely. I'm calling it," she said.
"I can't wait to see Democrats go out and support a Republican Speaker and have to go home to their primaries and have to run for Congress again, having supported a Republican Speaker, a Christian conservative."

The backdrop: Greene's announcement comes just one day after House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) and his leadership team announced they would vote to table – kill – any motion to vacate.

Most House Democrats are expected to stand behind him and vote to table the motion, senior Democratic sources told Axios.
"Most Democrats will follow Hakeem," said one of the senior House Democrats.

Zoom in: Rep. Becca Balint (D-Vt.), an openly gay progressive, told Axios she will vote to table "but I will not do it happily."

"Johnson's positions and actions on LGBTQ rights and reproductive rights are abhorrent to me and the vast majority of my constituents," she said, adding that her voters are "furious" about Johnson's role in Jan. 6.
But, she said, "my constituents and I want a functioning Congress. I will vote to end the chaos and to strip MTG of her power and influence."

Between the lines: One House Democrat speculated Johnson is "trying to bring this to a head so that Republicans are forced to decide between crazy and just plain old arch-conservative."

But, the lawmaker argued, Greene "has no choice. Her brand is to be a firebrand and constituents expect it. If she doesn't file the motion she looks weak."
"Filing it and losing is better for her crazy narrative about how all Republicans are Democrats now."
Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) argued Greene's tactic will backfire and "make Speaker Johnson even stronger and encourage him to work with Democrats."

The other side: There will be at least a small pocket of progressives who refuse to vote to table Greene's motion.

Congressional Progressive Caucus Chair Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) told reporters she is "going to vote against tabling it."
"I respect what our leaders decided and I understand why he decided it, and I appreciate that he has been very clear this is a narrow, very narrow, one-time deal," she added.

The bottom line: "She raises money off chaos. That's her real goal," Rep. Greg Landsman (D-Ohio) said of Greene.

"Unfortunately for her, most of us are determined to govern."

We are a divided country these days, so much so that certain people have taken to mad mutterings about a “national divorce,” secession or even civil war. But fear not, fellow Americans, for a time of healing and reunion may be upon us.

If you have doubts, I get it, because what could inspire renewed unity in this overheated political environment? What could possibly bring together Republicans and Democrats, conservatives and liberals, at a time when we appear to agree on so little?

Well, history tells us that nothing brings people together faster than having a common enemy, and Americans of both parties now seem to have found one in Georgia’s own Marge in Charge, U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Of course, Democrats have openly despised Greene since she entered public life a few years ago, in large part because she’s as mean as a water moccasin and nutty as a south Georgia pecan orchard. But times being what they are, that disdain has become the foundation of her political career. Conservatives love what liberals hate, so the more anger that Greene could trigger from the left, the more adoration and power she got on the right. It has worked very, very well for her until now, but her limitations are about to come into play.

Thanks to her time in the spotlight, Greene now sees herself as a foreign policy expert, as the arbiter and enforcer of what Republicans are allowed to believe, and even as vice presidential material.

She has also recently decided, pretty much all on her own, that House Speaker Mike Johnson, her fellow Republican, must be removed from that high office because he dared to allow votes on foreign-aid packages to Ukraine, Taiwan and Israel that Greene personally opposed. (All three passed by large margins.)

“Mike Johnson’s speakership is over,” she proclaimed last week, as if she held his fate in her hands, saying that “he has betrayed America, he has betrayed Republican voters.”

Instead, and for the first time in her short career, there has been significant blowback from her own party. Her insistence that all aid to Ukraine be ended has earned her the title of “Moscow Marjorie” from the Murdoch-owned New York Post. The far-right editorial board of the Wall Street Journal, also Murdoch-owned, called her “Rep. Mayhem Taylor Greene” for her ongoing string of tantrums.

“She — not the Democrats — are the biggest risk to us getting back to a majority,” said Sen. Thom Tillis, Republican of North Carolina, accusing her of being “a terrible leader” and “dragging our brand down.” Even Democrats are now saying that if necessary, they will join with Republicans in voting to spite Greene and keep Johnson as speaker, a step of bipartisan cooperation that would be extraordinary even in less heated times.

Greene is clearly a clown, but clowns can be popular. However, the traits that make a good clown aren’t transferable to other lines of work. A funny face and big feet don’t qualify you to dictate American foreign policy on Ukraine. A lapel flower that shoots water doesn’t make you vice presidential material, and a big red nose doesn’t give you the power to unilaterally remove a House speaker.

The most famous clown in America, Ronald McDonald, has been the popular mascot for McDonald’s for more than 60 years, but nobody, including Ronald, thinks Ronald should be CEO of McDonald’s Corp. (The actual CEO of McDonald’s went to Harvard Business School, not to clown college.)

But you see, that’s where Ronald McDonald and Marjorie Greene part company. Ronald is self-aware enough to know he’s a clown. Marjorie doesn’t. She thinks she gets all this TV time and attention because of her wisdom and leadership qualities, when in fact she has just happened to come along at a time when her party’s base cares more about performance art and political theater — which she’s good at — than they do about actual governing.

But like Greene herself, that approach has severe limitations. The GOP has forfeited so much power to the clowns among them – including at the very top – that on its own it is incapable of performing the basic functions of self-government. Thanks to the leeway they’ve given to Greene and others, the party that famously rejects compromise as betrayal now needs Democratic help just to keep its own speaker in place.

It’s a kumbaya moment.

USA, voto sull’Ucraina: Johnson tradisce Trump?

“È un onore fare il parlamentare ma alcuni dei miei colleghi sono veramente schifosi”. Queste le parole durissime di Tony Gonzales, parlamentare repubblicano del Texas, per descrivere alcuni degli estremisti nel suo partito. Gonzales ha lanciato le sue velenose frecce a Matt Gaetz della Florida e Bob Good del Virginia in un’intervista alla Cnn. Il primo, secondo Gonzales, ha “pagato per rapporti sessuali” con minorenni mentre il secondo ha offerto il suo endorsement a un “neo-nazista”, suo avversario alle primarie nel Texas.

Questi colleghi di Gonzales hanno controbattuto che lui è un RINO (Republican in Name Only, Repubblicano solo di nome), un falso repubblicano a causa dei suoi voti troppo moderati. In particolare si riferivano al voto favorevole di Gonzales sulla legge che fornirà 95 miliardi di dollari per l’Ucraina, l’Israele, assistenza umanitaria, e Paesi del Pacifico. La legge era stata approvata dal Senato tre mesi fa ma la Camera, guidata dallo speaker Mike Johnson, si era rifiutata di sottoporre la proposta al voto. Johnson alla fine ha deciso di agire, riconoscendo la gravità della situazione, tradendo in un certo senso la linea dettata da Donald Trump che favorisce l’isolazionismo.

Perché ha cambiato idea Johnson? Lo speaker ha spiegato il suo dietrofront asserendo che ha fiducia nelle informazioni di intelligence che gli sono state fornite. Ha aggiunto che considera “Xi Jinping e Vladimir Putin e l’Iran come un asse del male” e che Putin non si fermerebbe in Ucraina ma continuerebbe la sua marcia attraverso l’Europa. Si crede che Johnson abbia ottenuto l’OK per approvare il disegno di legge da Trump in una sua recente visita all’ex presidente nel suo resort di Mar-a-Lago. La relativa neutralità del tycoon sul disegno di legge forma un contrasto con quella sull’immigrazione approvato dal Senato alcuni mesi fa. In quel caso Trump si era opposto ferocemente perché non voleva che la questione dell’immigrazione si risolvesse, vedendola come una delle carte vincenti all’elezione di novembre.

Johnson però ha rischiato con la sua mossa perché una buona parte dei parlamentari repubblicani ha votato contro le quattro sezioni del pacchetto. Quindi ci sono voluti voti democratici per oltrepassare il traguardo. Una legge bipartisan dunque come è pure avvenuto al Senato. Fra quelli che hanno votato contro i soliti ultra conservatori hanno minacciato di introdurre una mozione di sfiducia a Johnson. Con i cambiamenti messi in atto da Kevin McCarthy, ex speaker defenestrato nell’ottobre scorso, persino un singolo parlamentare può mettere in pericolo la posizione dello speaker. È successo proprio a McCarthy il quale è stato rimosso dopo l’introduzione del voto di sfiducia messo in moto proprio da Gaetz. Nel caso di Johnson un’altra parlamentare di ultra destra, Marjorie Taylor Greene, della Georgia, è stata la più schiamazzante. L’arrabbiatissima Greene, etichettata “Moscow Marjorie” per i suoi ripetuti commenti a favore di Putin, aveva indicato che era pronta a presentare la mossa di rimozione di Johnson.

Fino adesso non lo ha fatto. Non si sa esattamente se le voci di alcuni parlamentari democratici che forse avrebbero protetto Johnson o forse il silenzio di Trump l’avranno tenuta calma. C’è inoltre un certo clima di disgusto da parte di alcuni parlamentari repubblicani i quali sembrano averne avuto abbastanza dalle sue frequenti accuse assurde. Persino la Fox News sembra averla scaricata anche se continua a essere intervistata ma con meno frequenza. La Greene ha speranze di essere scelta come vice di Trump e quindi non vuole mettere in pericolo le sue chance.

Una mozione di sfiducia per rimuovere Johnson potrebbe rivelarsi imbarazzante per la Greene e gli altri membri dell’estrema destra del suo partito. Il parlamentare Hakeem Jeffries di New York, leader della minoranza democratica alla Camera, ha dichiarato al New York Times che salvare il posto di Johnson è in considerazione. Il suo partito si riunirà la settimana prossima per programmare la loro risposta in caso di una possibile sfiducia per l’attuale speaker. Secondo Jeffries, la forza di Johnson è proprio il fatto che tanti considerano la Greene “insopportabile”. Inoltre lo speaker ha cominciato a capire che le richieste esagerate dell’ala ultra conservatrice del suo partito non sono attuabili. I repubblicani controllano solo uno dei due rami legislativi―la Camera, con una maggioranza risicata. Il Senato e il potere esecutivo sono nelle mani dei democratici. Governare richiede compromessi resi ancor più difficili dalle posizioni di Trump. Deviare dalla linea dell’ex presidente potrebbe significare anche la rimozione di Johnson dimostrando al Paese che i repubblicani non sanno governare quando si preparano alle elezioni in cui chiederanno agli americani non solo di eleggere il loro candidato per la Casa Bianca ma anche la maggioranza in ambedue le Camere.

The anti-Israel protesters hunkered down on the grounds of the University of California, Los Angeles put out a bizarre list of requested donations Wednesday — with some “urgent” items that seemingly indicate the mob is preparing for battle.

Skater helmets, shields, wood for barriers and elbow and knee pads were among the much-needed tools requested by the school’s Students for Justice in Palestine to sustain its so-called UCLA Palestine Solidarity Encampment.

“We will not leave. We will remain here until our demands are met,” SJP at UCLA said in a statement.

The defensive materials listed as “urgent” items, as well as headlamps, airsoft goggles, gas masks and flashlights with strobe.


The group also asked for utility gloves “without reinforced knuckles” of various sizes, hilariously adding that they need pairs made “especially for small hands.”

The requests went on to list rope, zip-ties, electric and solar-powered generators, as well as Epi-Pens, inhalers, lotion and Aquaphor.


A separate spreadsheet made specifically for donors interested in feeding the rabble-rousers was linked in the document — and came with a clear warning that several items were not permitted in the encampment.

“NO packaged food, NO coffee, NO bagels, NO bananas, NO nuts” the document reads, with each prohibited item bolded and underlined.

The campers were also banned from using sunscreen, according to the sheet.

The only foods SJP at UCLA would seemingly accept are vegan and gluten-free items, with a specific request for “hot food for lunch!!! (IMPORTANT!!)”

The donation list was published on the group’s Instagram page, where it also ignorantly compared its members to Palestinians in the Gaza war following the violent clash on campus.

SJP at UCLA claimed they experienced a “life-threatening assault” after counter-protesters tried to clear the camp overnight in what turned into a chaotic brawl that required intervention from LAPD officers.

UCLA canceled classes on Wednesday following the violence and shut down Royce Hall, the area near the encampment, for the rest of the week.

“We have law enforcement presence stationed throughout campus to help promote safety,” the university said in a statement.

Molte persone si sono allontanate pacificamente, ma molti altrimanifestanti hanno opposto resistenza usando tavole di compensato, barriere metalliche e persino ombrelli. Gli agenti hanno usato granate stordenti e formato cordoni contro le avanzate occasionali di gruppi di giovani, ma anche proiettili di gomma.
