I always find myself counting errors, too, but I can't think of anyone right off who's that bad. (on tv, anyway)

Welcome Christine,
what's your opinion about Friedrich August von Hayek? I know he's a thinker very well known and discussed in the USA.

Thanks for your thoughts on 11/9.
No need to apologize for your English. It definitely beats my Italian. My Greek and Latin are non-existant.

Thank you for your opinion. I completely agree with you!
Now I will explain the origin of the funny nickname "bananas" used to call Berlusconi's supporters.
Did you see the movie, directed by Woody Allen, bananas?

Woody describes his adventures in a "banana republic", i.e. a ridicolous populistic regime where corruption is rife and liberty weak. So is Berlusconi's Italy . Berlusconi is commonly called "cavalier Banana" (=sir Banana); he's a rich and powerful leader who hands out appointments, advantages, etc. to friends and supporters, without much consideration for the law.
In Italy is famous his war against judges (he want to submit them to government, because he himself is under inquiry ). Another example of banana acting: he drive away from Italian public tv some famous journalist who criticised him(in Italy we have 6 national channels, 3 of wich are public and other 3 are Berlusconi's property).

Thanks for the explanation! While reading this site I kept coming across the word "bananas," and couldn't figure out if it was being used to describe a certain group of people, or just anyone who disagreed with the person speaking (like we'd use the word "nuts" here to mean "crazy" when we disagree with someone). I had no idea the question would cause such a stir.Originally posted by Ortega
