Hamburg will die notwendige Fläche bereitstellen.

"The Chinese government is aiming to put a million fuel-cell vehicles on the roads by 2030,"

Eni ,Toyota & the Municipality & Metropolitan City of Venice Sign Agreement on Construction of Hydrogen Refuelling Station
    By FuelCellsWorksSeptember 7, 2019

In Mestre, as part of the events organised by Italy’s Japan Foundation for ‘Japan Week’, the Municipality and the Metropolitan City of Venice, Eni and Toyota signed an agreement to evaluate the construction of a hydrogen refuelling station in the Municipality of Venice.

Venice Mestre–– Venice is experimenting with hydrogen-fuelled mobility, which only releases water vapour from exhausts. This afternoon in Mestre, as part of the events organised by Italy’s Japan Foundation for ‘Japan Week’, the Municipality and the Metropolitan City of Venice, Eni and Toyota signed an agreement to evaluate the construction of a hydrogen refuelling station in the Municipality of Venice.

If the feasibility study, which will begin immediately, is successful, the agreements states that Eni will set up a hydrogen refuelling station in one of the company’s service stations in the Venetian municipal area, which will be identified by 31 December 2019, while Toyota will provide a fleet of 10 Mirai which will be supplied to Eni’s refuelling plant.

This agreement is part of an existing collaboration between Toyota, Eni, the Municipality and Metropolitan City of Venice, to implement an experimental project aimed at promoting sustainable and low-emission mobility in the Venetian region. It marks a concrete step towards creating a distribution network that enables the circulation of hydrogen powered vehicles.

“In Venice, one of the most resilient cities in the world,” said Luigi Brugnaro, the mayor of Venice, “we started from the assumption that environmental sustainability is always coupled with the theme of economic resources. We want to show that caring for the environment should not be perceived as a cost for the community, but as a driving force behind the circular economy. This is an example for Italy and Europe, that was conceived in the productive and industrial heart of Porto Marghera. With Eni and Toyota, we will implement a public-private partnership to further research and innovation, which will have a tangible impact.”

“Hydrogen is a molecule that we already use in our activities,” said Giuseppe Ricci, Eni’s Chief Refining & Marketing Officer, “particularly in the bio refining cycle, where it is mainly used to remove oxygen from plant materials, waste cooking oils, animal fats and other waste we use to produce biofuels in Porto Marghera. We have also started investing in studying technologies to produce hydrogen from solid urban waste and non-recyclable plastics, as well as mobility.

The agreement signed today is an important milestone for a low carbon future. Hydrogen is an important part of Eni’s de-carbonisation process to reduce climate-changing gas emissions. These hydrogen stations will allow Eni to strengthen its ability to offer low environmental impact fuels: In a network of 4,400 plants, 3,500 supply Eni Diesel +, the diesel fuel that contains the biofuel produced in the Venice biorefinery and another one in Gela, while around 200 plants supply methane (2 of which are LNG) and will soon supply bio-methane ».

“Today is a very important day for the development of hydrogen refueling infrastructure in Italy, and we are proud to play our part, together with Venice and with Eni, two excellent partners, who share our sustainability goals and ideals,” stated Toyota Motor Italia’s CEO, Mauro Caruccio. “We are convinced of hydrogen’s potential to advance decarbonisation processes in society today. It will play a leading role in the path to zero-emission mobility and will complement other electrified technological solutions. For this reason, we began investing in the development of fuel cell technology over 20 years ago, and in 2014, we introduced Mirai, the first mass-produced hydrogen sedan, which was the result of continuous evolution at Toyota’s hybrid-electric platform.”

    IAA Frankfurt

Bosch and Hanwha invest 230 million in Nikola
    by electrive.net
    nikola-motor-nikola-two-brennstoffzellen-lkw-fuel-cell-truck-2019-02

US startup Nikola, specialising in fuel cell and battery trucks, has announced that German companies Bosch and Hanwha have invested a total of 230 million dollars with at least 100 million dollars each.

This comes just a few days after the Iveco owner CNH Industrial became the main investor with a 250 million dollar investment. A joint venture for the development of trucks in Europe is also being established with parent company Iveco. In the course of the “Series D” investment round, Nikola wants to earn a total of one billion dollars.

The cooperation with Bosch is nothing new for Nikola. For years, the German supplier has been an important development partner for fuel cells and battery technology for heavy trucks. “Bosch’s investment confirms its commitment to the development of hydrogen technology and hydrogen infrastructure,” writes Nikola.

Hanwha manufactures solar modules and other renewable energy equipment. For Nikola, Hanwha supplies solar modules to generate clean hydrogen with green electricity. “Bosch can help us commercialize very complex vehicle components and Hanwha can provide us with clean energy at hydrogen locations where possible.,” says Nikola CEO Trevor Milton. “Rather than going at this alone like many startups do, my goal was to build the most powerful network of partners in the world, and I believe we have done a pretty good job at that with CNHI, Bosch, Hanwha and others.”

In the investment announced earlier this week by CNH Industrial, Nikola announced that it would build a hydrogen infrastructure in North America and Europe together with CNH’s FPT and Iveco brands – Iveco and FPT had “made a significant contribution to the development and expansion of the European natural gas refuelling network”. With the investment of Bosch and Hanwha, Nikola sees this hydrogen ecosystem being driven forward.

Nikola already operates the largest hydrogen filling station in the USA at its headquarters in Phoenix. According to the company, this can deliver and store over a ton of hydrogen per day. For future Nikola stations, the startup is targeting a value of eight metric tons so that it can quickly refuel an increasing number of fuel cell trucks.

BMW is branching out at the IAA
    by electrive.net
    bmw-i-hydrogen-next-concept-2019-03-min

The new BMW boss Oliver Zipse briefly outlined his new drive strategy at the IAA. He avoided making a commitment to battery-electric cars such as VW did and stressed various options. With the ‘i Hydrogen Next’, BMW is also presenting a fuel cell car.

At his first public appearance as head of BMW – less than four weeks after taking over the post – Zipse naturally had to resort to the existing. Of course, he had already shared responsibility for many of them in his role as Chief Production Officer. Nevertheless, there were some interesting statements for the future.

“We are concentrating on the question: Which technologies have the greatest leverage to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions,” says Zipse in his short speech. However, he does not want to virtually prescribe which cars customers should buy in the future with which drives: “A product can only be effective if a customer desires and uses it. In other words, the car buyer should continue to have the choice and be able to decide for himself.

According to Zipse, BMW wants to have sold one million electrified cars by 2021 – but he is not going into what proportion BEVs and plug-in hybrids should have. “The demand for battery-electric cars will increase in the next ten years,” the BMW boss is certain. In 2030, the share of BEV in the premium segment in the USA and Europe will be 30 per cent each, in China even 55 per cent.

Despite these figures, BMW will continue to focus strongly on plug-in hybrids – no real surprise in view of the many PHEV innovations in recent weeks. “In addition to purely electric cars, plug-in hybrids are an effective way of reducing emissions,” says Zipse.

In addition to the battery cars that will come onto the market in the coming years, BMW will continue to rely on hydrogen. BMW will also be exhibiting a fuel cell development vehicle based on an X5, the ‘i Hydrogen Next’. The car only had to be slightly modified for fuel cell technology and shows that this technology can be easily integrated into a vehicle like the BMW X5, says BMW. However, the Munich-based company does not provide any information on the technical data of the engine.

    bmw-i-hydrogen-next-concept-2019-01-min
    bmw-i-hydrogen-next-concept-2019-05-min

In the year 2022, Zipse wants to put an unspecified fleet of the i Hydrogen Next on the road. The BMW boss does not announce possible series models, but leaves a lot to be desired – even for the customer: “We will be able to supply the technology when the demand is there”. But: From 2025 at the earliest and depending on market requirements and framework conditions. That is to say: Above all from the filling stations. And if BMW takes its own statements about reducing greenhouse gas emissions seriously, the effect of the FCEV will depend above all on the production and transport of hydrogen.

With the Concept 4, which was presented by chief designer Adrian van Hooydonk, BMW gave an outlook on the future 4-series – which will also provide the basis for the i4. So the design could be an indication of the i4 in parts, but there are no new technical details on the part of BMW. However, BMW will continue to rely on conventional drives. “We believe in the “power of choice” of our customers: Different drive trains for different customers all over the world,” says Zipse.

In addition, there was also news about the upcoming Formula E season: The BMW team has signed Maximilian Günther as a new driver for the sixth Formula E season. He is moving from Dragon to BMW i Andretti and replacing António Félix da Costa. Newcomer Maximilian Günther drove ten races for GEOX Dragon in 2018/19, finished fifth twice and was twice in the Super Pole competition of the fastest six drivers in qualifying. He is no stranger to BMW Motorsport: In 2011, Günther started his Formula career in the Formula BMW Talent Cup – BMW’s programme for promoting young talent – and finished second. This was followed by numerous successful positions in Formula racing.
