Suicide attack plot foiled in the North: three youths arrested
Three young men, aged 19 to 24, were arrested this week in the north of the country on suspicion of planning a suicide attack on behalf of the Islamic State organization. 50% of Women Murdered in Spain This Year Killed by Migrants

Half of all women murdered in Spain so far in 2025 were killed by foreigners, even though foreigners make up just 13.4% of the country’s population. This figure is alarming, especially given that the proportion of foreign-born perpetrators has tripled since data started being recorded in 2003.

This trend raises serious questions about the effectiveness of the migration and integration policies of successive governments over the past few decades. Of particular concern is the high rate of femicides committed by individuals from Morocco, who are statistically almost six times more likely to commit such crimes than Spaniards. The Romanian community also shows a troubling pattern, with a rate 3.4 times higher than the national average relative to its population size..

Moreover, the high concentration of these crimes in specific regions is also worrying. Andalusia and Catalonia stand out in particular, regions with a significant increase in their foreign population in recent years. Andalusia has had the highest absolute number of murders of women since 2003, closely followed by Catalonia and the Valencia region. Asylum seekers who fled Iran to UK on small boats 'return to country on holiday'

Whistleblowers from asylum accommodation have alleged that three teenage Iranian asylum seekers returned to their home country for a holiday - despite claiming they had fled due to persecution. According to two housing workers, these three Kurdish-Iranian asylum seekers returned to their country of origin on separate occasions, with their trips funded by another migrant.

Following a series of trips last year by teenagers from accommodation in Derbyshire, the two former employees of housing provider Framework claimed their concerns about the young men, all of whom had arrived in Britain via small boat, were "brushed aside." Housing officer Darren Jennings, 50, alleges he was "made to feel like a racist" after deciding to blow the whistle on the holidays, which involved watersports and Eid celebrations.

"If you're saying you've left the country because it's unsafe and then you're choosing to travel back there it doesn't make sense," he told the Express. "The countries they said they were going to have a history of terrorism, people smuggling and drug [trafficking]."

During his monthly check-ups at an asylum seeker accommodation facility, Mr Jennings became concerned when one resident failed to answer his door. He claims the man had returned to Iran to visit his family in April last year for around two months. This, according to Mr Jennings, prompted another Iranian resident to inform him of his plans to return as well.

The housing officer, who stepped down from his role at Framework in July last year, said he had also been told the trips were funded by another asylum seeker in Britain, whose identity remains unknown - saying this raised serious concerns over safeguarding. "These were people who were skint, on benefits but were saying 'we've got the money' from some mysterious individual willing to pay for it," he said.

"I have a daughter the same age and if she came to me and said 'somebody I barely know can pay for me to go to Ibiza for two months' I'm not letting her go. I'm certainly thinking there's something going on there."

Reform UK's Lee Anderson condemned the situation revealed by the Express, insisting that those taking holidays in countries they have fled should be sent back permanently. "Phoney asylum seekers are endemic in Britain," he said, "yet, we have a Labour Government that is bending over backwards to provide them with five-star hotel accommodation and benefits – no questions asked. If their countries are safe enough to vacation in then we should be deporting them, no ifs, no buts."

Weston Walton, another ex-support worker at the Derbyshire residence, echoed Mr Jennings' apprehensions about the men's safety. "I knew of three cases where they went on holiday," he said. "[One of the teens] went for months, it was bizarre. When some staff highlighted the safeguarding risk this was brushed aside."

The teenagers did not journey together, but it is believed that their travel expenses were covered by the same unidentified asylum seeker. The exact dates and routes taken by the three men were not disclosed to the staff.

Mr Walton expressed his concern that, despite Framework receiving £370 per week in enhanced housing benefit for each asylum seeker from UK taxpayers, the organisation was not doing enough to personally check on its residents. Most of the interactions between Framework staff and the asylum seekers under their care are conducted via WhatsApp messages and video calls, rather than face-to-face conversations, according to the Express. In a WhatsApp chat viewed by the Express, one man, who had previously shared videos of himself participating in watersports with staff, accused another support worker of "letting him down" because they had "promised not to say anything" after being informed that his holiday could impact his housing benefit payments.

"I started like kind of doing a bit of due diligence myself and knocking on doors," Mr Walton added. "I realised 'oh my goodness' who's checking upon what we do? If we say someone's there then that just means they are there [when they might not be]. It was a very scary awakening.

"[Framework] were not raising their game to support people in those situations. The [men] were in an extremely vulnerable position," he added.

Mr Jennings raised the alarm through Framework's internal whistleblowing process, as well as notifying other authorities and the police, over concerns that the men's disappearance might indicate benefit fraud. A Home Office spokesperson declined to comment on individual cases, saying: "We take all claims of abuse of the immigration system extremely seriously and will not hesitate to take action where necessary."

Framework also refrained from discussing individual cases, but deputy chief executive Claire McGonigle stated: "These allegations were fully investigated and considered under our Whistleblowing procedures last year. We concluded that all appropriate communication took place with our stakeholders, that appropriate safeguarding responses were made, and that we had shared all relevant information with the local Housing Benefit department."

Ms McGonigle added: "We made repeated attempts to engage with the former staff member who raised these concerns both during their employment and after their resignation. They have been unwilling to accept the findings of our investigations and we are at a loss as to what more we can do to resolve their concerns."

A spokesperson for Derbyshire County Council clarified that they had no "legal power" to stop the trip, so "a partnership, multi-agency safety plan was put in place at the time notification to travel was received. Derbyshire has robust procedures to reduce exploitation risks and legally discharges its statutory duty to support children in care and care leavers.

"The three individuals are all care leavers, over the age of 18, obtained travel documents legally and followed the appropriate Home Office Asylum claim processes," they continued.

Confirming police involvement, a Derbyshire Police spokesperson stated an officer attended a meeting concerning the travel plans of the individuals but "no criminal offences were found". They further mentioned that "were there to be concerns about potential criminal matters, then these would be able to be raised through well-established formal channels that exist between local authorities, and other agencies, in the county."

Addressing the fraud allegation, the spokesperson said: "After meeting with the individual no criminal offences were found to have been reported and no further enquiries were made. It is understood that the individual was not referred to trading standards by the officer that he met with."
